blood thinners but experienced several recent medical incidents possibly related to his condition. He had to be removed from severalgames – most recently on December 1 at San Jose – and each time had to undergo a series of tests. For more information on Dupuis, check penguins.nhl.com or use this link: http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=791588.Words aren’t enough to state what the Penguins will miss from Dupuis off the ice. On the ice, he leaves a hole in the team’s top-nineand on the penalty killing unit.At practice on Tuesday, Eric Fehr moved up to play Dupuis’ most-recent role as left wing on the third line with Nick Bonino and PatricHornqvist.Since making his season debut Oct. 22, Dupuis has averaged 2:25 shorthanded minutes. That was fourth-most among team forwardsduring that span behind only Fehr, Matt Cullen and Bonino. When Dupuis missed a pair of games in early November, Chris Kunitzassumed most of his minutes, skating 1:30 shorthanded minutes, with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Beau Bennett eachreceiving 10 seconds or less each. Earlier in the season, when Dupuis and Fehr were out the first six games each, it was Malkin (1:02avg.) and Crosby (0:56 avg.) who assumed the heaviest workload.Originally acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers on Feb. 26, 2008, Dupuis skated in 452 regular-season games with the Penguins, totaling 109 goals, 138 assists and 247 points. The 2009 Stanley Cup champ tacked on 33 points (14G-19A) in 77 postseasoncontests. His final playoff run with the Penguins came in 2012-13 when he helped the team advance to the conference finals, establishing postseason highs in goals (7) and points (11).His best season came in 2011-12 when he notched career highs in goals (25), assists (34) and points (59). He ended that year on a 17-game point streak, which held as the NHL’s longest until Patrick Kane’s recent run. Dupuis hit the 20-goal mark the next year in thelockout-shortened campaign, when he also posted a league-high plus-31. PENGUINS CEO SIDELINEDThe Penguins announced on Monday that team CEO and president David Morehouse would miss six to eight weeks after undergoingheart valve repair and bypass surgery on Tuesday. This course of action was recommended by doctors following a series of recenttests and examinations. In his absence, Penguins’ chief operating officer Travis Williams will oversee team business. THAT WAS A SUCCESSPenguins head coach Mike Johnston successfully challenged an Anaheim goal on Sunday night. At 7:30 of the first period, the Ducks’Rickard Rakell scored on a power play, but Johnston and the Penguins challenged that Sami Vatanen did not hold the puck in thezone at the blue line 28 seconds prior to the goal. After consulting video replay and the NHL Hockey Operations staff, the linesmandecided the goal should be negated according to rule 78.7.That was Johnston’s first successful use of a coach’s challenge since the new rule was instituted at the beginning of this season. STRONG RETURNOlli Maatta has goals in both games he has played since returning from a six-game injury absence, giving him three goals in the lastsix games he’s played. Maatta currently leads Penguins blueliners with four goals this year.Maatta practiced yesterday with Kris Letang, who could return tonight after missing the past two games. Letang averages the fifth-most minutes in the NHL (26:24), so Maatta should expect his minutes to continue to rise. In his last three complete games, Maatta hasaveraged 20:50 minutes. During his first 16 games, Maatta averaged 16:25 minutes while never reaching the 20-minute mark. SID STAYS HOTPenguins captain Sidney Crosby assisted on Olli Maatta’s lone Pittsburgh goal Sunday to give Crosby at least one point in seven ofhis last eight games, a span where he has averaged better than a point per game with four goals, five assists and nine points.Crosby has three goals and four points in three previous visits to the Pepsi Center. ROAD TO 300Kris Letang, who has missed the last two games, is one point away from becoming only the fifth D-man in franchise history to record300 points with the team. When he does so, Letang will join this group, which features two Hall of Famers: Name                PointsPaul Coffey       440Ron Stackhouse 343Randy Carlyle    323Larry Murphy     301Kris Letang      299
