and country. 

They seeked economic opportunities

The colonists and Indians had a peaceful relationship. 

The Natives are described as naive and overly trusting.  They appeared to

have no religion according to the colonists.

Colonists chose to live near harbors and on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean

for good trade, fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding. Easy trade access between

mother country (England) and the colonies (mercantilism).

Life in Jamestown was difficult due to diseases and a lack of food.

They were distracted my searching for  gold instead of farming.

The colonists anticipated finding gold and being rich.  Instead they were

faced with horrific conditions ­ lack of food, disease, etc.
