LivingtheMovement

Wow, this winter was amazingly cold, glad to see some sun finally! Once again, we’ve been travelling around the globe to find a unique and inspiring spot to shoot the new editorial image story for this fifth issue of our Colin’s Mag. This time the choice came down to Stockholm, one of Europe’s hippest and trendiest cities, where we found the freedom and in-spiration needed for our creative work. Supported by photographer Chris Tribelhorn and his amazing lo-cal team, we were ready for a great shoot in the streets of Stockholm to present our new Autumn / Winter 2010 collection.

While shooting in Stockholm, it was the trendy area Östermalm that caught our attention. We found the latest trends among unique shops, hot bars, im-pressive nightlife, catchy music, talented artists, deli-cious restaurants, trendy hotels, cosy cafés and excep-tional galleries. Inside this mag you will find a map with Östermal’s hotspots and a section where you can read all about the big names of Stockholm’s music and art scene.

Sink into the world of Colin’s and let this beautiful city impress you as it has impressed us with its trendy lifestyle and amiable residents.

Vagabond Travel Bookshop Sweden-based designers „Smånsk“ have redesigned the interior of a bookshop for the travel magazine Vagabond, located in the hip and vibrant Södermalm area of Stockholm. They created the new look based on the form of the map of Söder-malm itself. The map covers not only the floor but it also continues as shelves for books to be neatly arranged in them.

Story HotelIn March 2009 opened one of the coolest ho-tels in Europe’s hippest city. The Story Hotel in Stockholm combines the chicness of a Parisian bohemian-style hotel with the urban look of a New York restaurant. What have you been up to lately, like what projects are you currently working on? For the past two years I’ve been working with and remixing for acts like Wipe The Needle and Hygher Baby, all Stockholm residents. But I’ve also been working on my own fair share. I just released two new singles on GAMM Enterprises, an infamous bootleg label run by my friend and collegue Mad Mats. The tracks are all bootleg remixes, purely intended for dance floors. I guess that’s my key in music pro duction, dance floors. I also do art direction for both GAMM Enterprises and Raw Fusion Recordings, but also for the two club nights that are affiliated with the above mentioned labels. What would be an ideal saturday night for you in Stockholm?

There used to be one, but now we have two ideal nights. Mad Mats re-cently started a GAMM night called GAMM & Friends which is a strictly local DJ’s night. It’s done at Hornstull Strand, a fairly young venue. It’s only been around for like a year or two, but is one of the hottest spots in town right now. So ideally would be to start off at home with the boys (and girls) and drop by the restaurant for some chow and then slowly start working our magic behind the decks.

The other would of course be our Raw Fusion night at legendary Mosebacke Etablissement on top of the Mosebacke hill from where you can view the entire city. But I’d like to say I prefer a Raw Fusion night in late spring or early/late summer. The venue is pretty small so there’s always a giant cue for the cloakroom. In summer, there’s no need for it. So it just makes for a better evening. A really good thing about the venue is that there’s never any “physical trouble” around. The crowd is, despite age, a very mature one. They’re there to dance! Nothing more, nothing less.

Can you tell us about some other hot acts and clubs in Stockholm? There are a few other club nights and acts that should be checked out if ever visiting Stockholm. Devotion is one of them, the best R&B club in the entire country. Right now I know they’re on a hiatus from doing club nights due to the lack of good venues in Stockholm. And don’t get me wrong, we do have a lot of them, good venues. But we have such an overflow of club promoters that the venues just aren’t enough. In Stockholm, everyone’s a DJ these days.

There’s Rickard Masip and legendary hiphop producer Freddie Cruger from the Tropical Treats crew. Rickard for instance, has been working on some dope rare afro/latin edits for the Sofrito label in Lon-don, worth checking out!

On the techier tip there’s SUMO/Bangana consisting of Alf Tum-ble and Combo. Wicked tech house for the experienced clubber! They also do bar nights at Lilla Hotellbaren which frequently ends up in spontaneous dancing.

We also have the Slow Blow club night that won the Best Club Night award for Stockholmspriset which is a very cool thing! They do more of a disco/house thing.

And of course the MIR crew (Boj Lucki, Toni Bassi and Ljudas) and Alloutdubstep run by Daniel Irk. They represent Sweden’s number one in bass culture. If you’re looking for a real good bassline you’ve hit jackpot!

Last but not least, a venue that almost always has something good thing going is Berns. And for some reason we all end up at this place,

Introduction Haris Badić aka DJ Asparagus is currently one of the hottest acts in Stockholm. He Runs the underground dance label Raw Fusion Record-ings, as well as the eponymous night club. Haris is also part of the Gamm Enterprises Inc and is responsible for all the artwork that was done for the two labels and the club. He talked with us about Stock-holm‘s music szene and the meaning of fashion.

whether we want to or not. Can you describe Stockholms music scene in three words?

I can do it with only two - adaptation and recreation! How does fashion and music coexist in Stockholm? Is there some kind of fusion existing?

Definitely! Stockholm has always fused fashion with music. And it’s been very obvious for the past decade. You have the hip-hop heads with their LRG’s and Mishka lumberjack shirts, rockers with the folded jeans and rockabilly haircuts, house dancers with their big tee’s and baggy trainer pants. The list just keeps going. But one thing has changed lately and it’s the fact that styles are fusing together, both mu-sically and in fashion. The hip-hop heads are getting rockabilly hair-cuts, the house dancers are wearing “tighter” clothing and so on and so forth. It’s just a big blend now. The hipsters are a perfect example of that! It’s probably the whole globalisation thing. I think it’s become more important to show off your individual style than to try and belong to a certain movement.

What value do clothes have for yourself? Well, the highest there is! Like I said, it’s all about individualism now. Who YOU are and not who you hang around with. I think that applies for most people now. At least for the more mature crowd. If I feel in a certain way or want to give a certain impression of myself my clothing is definitely a mirror image of that.

Finally, if there was one thing someone had to do when visiting Stock- holm, what would it be?

Music wise, you have to visit Raw Fusion and/or GAMM & Friends. But other than that, I’d just have to say, see the sights! It’s a beautiful city with a lot of great views to catch. You can’t get enough of those here. Es-pecially in summertime! And that’s another thing about this town, it’s nice in the peak periods of the year. Peak winter with the white snow covering the city and all the lights shining bright and peak summer when the sky is still blue at night! It’s trippy for sure!

Some last words to our readers? Yeah, come visit us soon!

A few years ago Slobodan Zivic and Thomas Berger were two graffiti artists who were tagging trains and walls in Stockholm and whole of Sweden. A couple of years later they‘d started a graffiti school and design studio with the slogan „We declare war on walls“. Fast forward a few years, they opened their new offices in a small back street of Stockholm. They‘d become „Wall Design“ and were painting murals on the walls of shops and offices. Today they are known by their past signa-

After great success in the US, Swedish pop art phenomena Finsta came back to Sweden for a Exhibition at the Gallery Steinsland Berliner in April 2010. His work is an universe of its own. He gives life to characters, enviroments and modles and presents humour throughout all of his works. It is full of metaphors and associations and often tries to bring the street and the estabblishment together. Born and raised in Lund, Finsta has now been living and working in Stockholm for more than ten years. He graduated from Swedish University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in 2004. Since then he has been working both nationally and internationally in a variety of techniques,
