Hi. I’m Walter Lippman.
I coined the word “Cold War”
A Cold War is a conflict between two countries in which they don’t fight each other
directly.
![Page 6: Cold war (11) day 1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062404/554e44e7b4c905f9478b53bd/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
So, you may be asking: Well, Walter,
what do they do then?
In a Cold War, countries:
1. Form military alliances
2. Conduct an arms race
3. Support opposing sides in other country’s civil wars
![Page 7: Cold war (11) day 1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062404/554e44e7b4c905f9478b53bd/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
And now, you’re asking:
How could this have started Walter? There are two MAIN
underlying factors that contributed to the Cold War….
And four CONTRIBUTING factors that further instigated matters.
![Page 8: Cold war (11) day 1](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062404/554e44e7b4c905f9478b53bd/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
There MAIN causes are ones that arose between 1920 and 1944.
The CONTRIBUTING factors are ones that took place between 1944 and continued through the 1950s.
