    Demonstrate the success of your college or university programs bysending students to compete against top students from across theUnited States, Canada, and beyond. By supporting academic teams from

    your program areas, you will showcase the quality of your programs to

    your administration, community partners and alumni, you will bring inter-

    national recognition to your students, your programs and your campus.

    If any of the areas on the following pages align with your classes or pro-

    gram area, there is one organization that allows you to showcase your

    members and your program through a competitive events programCol-

    legiate DECA.

    Competitive activities include role-plays, case studies and professional

    presentations. Events can be used in the classroom as experiential activi-

    ties to measure member performancethen you send the top performers

    to represent your school.

    Every competitive event and activity includes face-to-face interaction with

    a business/industry professional, validating the knowledge and abilities of

    members through a comprehensive evaluation. Com-

    petitive event transcripts are now available to

    gauge how members compare to members

    from their association (i.e., state, territory, or

    province) and their international ranking

    within their competitive event area. Chapter

    advisors can obtain competitive event tran-

    scripts after the International Career Devel-

    opment Conference.

    A school may choose to enter multiple

    members/teams in any of the events.

    COMPETITION TEAMS

    BUSINESS ETHICS (TEAM OF 2)

    A team of two members analyze a business situation containing an ethical dilemma, then

    present a resolution of the dilemma to a professional (judge) with experience in business.

    BUSINESS LAW (TEAM OF 2 TO 3)

    A team of two to three members analyze a real-world case law situation that deals with

    marketing/business activity between two organizations, then present solutions/recommen

    dations to a professional (judge) with experience in business.

    BUSINESS RESEARCH (TEAM OF 1 TO 3)

    One to three members partner with a local business to conduct research in the local market

    to assess how to implement or improve the business corporate social responsibility plan. Members will prepare a written research

    report and present ndings and strategies for improvement to a professional acting as the business owner.

    HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

    An individual member analyzes a real-world human resource management case situation,

    then presents solutions to a professional (judge) with experience in business.

    MARKETING MANAGEMENT

    An individual member analyzes a real-world marketing management case situation,

    then presents solutions to a professional (judge) with experience in business.

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    An individual member serving as a project manager leads and directs a cross-

    functional team to complete a project plan. Project managers are responsible

    for all aspects of the project plan and must complete the plan including sched-

    ule, budget, and scope. The member will prepare a written project plan and

    present to a judge acting as a company CEO.

    RETAIL MANAGEMENT

    An individual member will be challenged to perform marketing and manage-

    ment functions and tasks in any retail establishment, then role-play with profes-

    sionals (judges) with experience in business.

    SALES MANAGEMENT MEETING

    An individual member analyzes a real-world management case situation, then conducts

    a meeting with one or more salespeople (judges).

    COMMUNICATIONS & TECHNOLOGY

    COMPETITION TEAMS*

    ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN (TEAM OF 1 TO 3)

    One to three members prepare an advertising campaign for any service, product, company

    or business. The participant(s) will present the advertising campaign to judges acting as

    prospective clients/advertisers.

    EMERGING TECHNOLOGY MARKETING STRATEGIES EVENT (TEAM OF 1 OR 2)

    Team designs a marketing strategy for a product or service using emerging technology so-

    lutions. The participant(s) then demonstrate and explain the marketing plan to the potentia

    client.

    The objective for the 20132014 year is to create a comprehensive emerging technology

    marketing strategy for a weekend music festival. Emerging technology strategies in-

    clude, but are not limited to, web sites, mobile applications, social media outlets, animation, videos, and the like. The strategy

    should include a clearly integrated brand identity for the festival.

    PROFESSIONAL SALES

    An individual member selects a product(s) and/or service(s), and the organization and delivery of a sales presentation

    to a group of potential buyers of any item or items to be sold to a company for resale, or an industrial or trade product

    or service to be used in a company, rm, or store in the operation of its business or a product or service to be sold to the

    ultimate customer. The ability of the participant to interact with the buyers and initiate a purchase is the major focus of

    this event.

    FINANCE & ACCOUNTING COMPETITION TEAMS

    ACCOUNTING

    An individual member will analyze a real-world accounting situation, interpret data, pro-

    vide solutions to the situation, and then role-play with a professional with experience in

    accounting.

    BANKING FINANCIAL SERVICES

    An individual member will analyze a real-world banking ser-

    vices situation, developing ideas/solutions to the situ-

    ation, then role-playing with a professional (judge)with experience in banking services.

    CORPORATE FINANCE

    An individual member will be challenged to demonstrate their knowledge and un-

    derstanding of nancial concepts and how these concepts apply to the disciplines

    of investment and corporate nance in both business enterprises and nancial

    services institutions.

    FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS (TEAM OF 2 TO 3)

    Two or three members acting as nancial consultants will analyze the year-

    end nancial statements of two companies from the same industry, prepare

    a written analysis, and present their ndings and recommendations to pro-

    fessionals (judges) with experience in business.

    of potential buyers of any item or items to be sold to a company for resale, or an industrial or trade product or service to be used

    in a company, rm, or store in the operation of its business or a product or service to be sold to the ultimate customer. The ability

    of the participant to interact with the buyers and initiate a purchase is the major focus of this event.

    RESTAURANT AND FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT

    An individual member will be challenged to perform marketing and management functions and tasks in

    a restaurant or food service business.

    TRAVEL AND TOURISM

    An individual member will be challenged to perform marketing and management functions

    and tasks in any business enterprise primarily engaged in satisfying the desire of people to

    make productive or enjoyable use of travel services.

    The objective of the Online Business

    Plan competition is to provide Collegiate

    DECA members interested in the eld o

    entrepreneurship a comprehensive learning experience. This challenge will be dif

    ferent from most business plan competi-

    tions because it will operate completely

    A team of two members analyze a real-world international case situation, then pres-

    ent solutions to a professional (judge) with experience in international marketing

    and management.

    An individual member analyzes a real-world marketing management case situation,
