Coffee Originated in Ethiopia (wild bushes). Second most consumed beverage
after water (third is tea). Coffee has good flavour but it also
provides stimulation – how? Different cultures have different
ways of preparing and drinking coffee.

Arabica versus Robusta
Two varieties of coffee grown:Arabica - EthiopiaRobusta - Congo
ARABICA ROBUSTA More difficult to grow = expensive
Easier to grow = cheap
Needs: high altitude (800 -

temperatures (20-25o C)
regular rainfall low humidity
Needs: can grow from sea
level up to 700 m will tolerate
extreme heat less fussy about

Resistant to disease and pests
Delicate, refined flavours
Strong flavour
Less caffeine
Twice as much caffeine as arabica
