Do you Use the Cloud?
A cloud service has three distinct characteristics that differentiate it from traditional hosting. It is sold on demand, typically by the minute or the hour; it is elastic - a user can have as much or as little of a service as they want at any given time; and the service is fully managed by the provider.
Definition
Let Us Imagine…Let's say you're an executive at a large corporation. Your particular responsibilities include making sure that all of your employees have the right hardware and software they need to do their jobs. Buying computers for everyone isn't enough, you also have to purchase software or software licenses to give employees the tools they require. Whenever you have a new hire, you have to buy more software or make sure your current software license allows another user. It's so stressful that you find it difficult to go to sleep on your huge pile of money every night..!!
Soon, there may be an alternative for executives like you. Instead of installing a suite of software for each computer, you'd only have to load one application. That application would allow workers to log into a Web-based service which hosts all the programs the user would need for his or her job. Remote machines owned by another company would run everythingfrom e-mail to word processing to complex data analysis programs. It's called cloud computing, and it could change the entire computer industry.
This is What the cloud is..!!
Let Me Explain…
• Computers have internal or hard drive storage(C: Drive)
• CPU has a drive for storing programs, documents, pictures, videos, presentations, etc…
Computer Storage
Standard Computer Tower or Central
Processing Unit (CPU)
Inside the Computer
• Purchase programs• Load to the computer• Each computer would need the program loaded
and stored on the internal drive
Programs
External Storage
External Hard DriveCD/DVD Thumb Drive
SD Card Micro SD Card
• Allows your content to become mobile• Save to the storage device• Take device to any compatible computer• Open and use content
• Multiple work stations talk to one unit that stores information and data.
• Data is not saved to the C: drive, but to a network drive
• Can retrieve the data stored to the network from any of the connected workstations.
Networked Storage
So what is the cloud?
=Computing and software resources that are delivered on demand, as service.
How Does it work???
Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS is a software distribution model in which applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a network, typically the Internet.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
PaaS is a way to rent hardware, operating systems, storage and network capacity over the Internet. The service delivery model allows the customer to rent virtualized servers and associated services for running existing applications or developing and testing new ones.
Example : Google App Engine, Microsoft SQL Server Data Services, Engine Yard, Salesforce.com’s Force.com
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
IaaS is a provision model in which an organization outsources the equipment used to support operations, including storage, hardware, servers and networking components. The service provider owns the equipment and is responsible for housing, running and maintaining it. The client typically pays on a per-use basis.
• E.g.: Akamai, Amazon EC2, CohesiveFT, Mosso, Joyent Accelerators

Benefits
Affordability
They own the hardware
They maintain the system
They train and support users
Benefits
• Your data is not directly in your hands, but in the hands of a third party.
• Total Dependence on the Internet Connection.
• If your cloud Host disappears, where does your information go?
