You may wonder how muchof an impact it can have on your life - well, we're here to answerthat question. A good credit score will mean that you qualify forthe best loans, rates and terms. This great advantage will graduallysave you money through reduced rates over the lifespan of a loan.Gerri Deweiler, a Director of Consumer Education, sums it up per-fectly: "An excellent credit score equals money in your pocket."

As an example, a credit score of 620 or below would mean that theperson looking to borrow would be categorized as a "sub-prime"borrower, whereas a credit score of 720 would mean that the bor-rower would be eligible for more favorable loan conditions.

Here are some simple tips to repair your credit score:

1. Get a credit card from amajor company.Before you go crazy, it is important to note that using a credit cardand keeping a balance on one are two totally different matters.Running up a bill that you don't pay in full won't help you buildcredit. That being said, this tip takes discipline, but it's an easy wayto improve a poor credit score if you pay your card off monthly. Wesuggest using it for things like gas that you will pay off on a month-ly basis.

2. Get a prepaid credit card.If you don't trust yourself to use a credit card wisely or just don'twant one, then you should get a prepaid credit card. This gives youa way to use a credit card without the temptation of running updebt. This will only allow you to spend the amount you haveplaced on the card and no more.

3. Be patient.Although it is difficult, it's impor-tant that you understand theprocess of repairing you creditwon't happen overnight. Slowand steady wins the race when itcomes to your credit score.

4. Check your credit score.It is very important that you understand that your credit report isaccurate. So, checking the three credit bureaus on a regular basis iswise. These include Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. You want toknow if anything incorrect is on your credit report so you can fix thesituation before it damages your credit.

In the aftermath of the Great Recession, there is a significant pent-updemand to form households and even to build homes. At least 3 mil-lion fewer households formed over the past five years than wouldnormally have been expected. During this period, many collegegraduates were forced to double-up or move in with their parents.

However, we have come an incredibly long way since then. Over thepast year, there has been a significant revival of single-family homeproduction.

What does this mean for 2014?

Housing will continue its climb toward higher ground this year.According to NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe, consumerconfidence has returned to pre-recession levels and year-over-yearhousehold formations are on the rise. In fact, there are now an averageof 620,000 households compared to just 500,000 during the housingdownturn.

There will be an upward pressure on mortgage rates this year, butdon't worry - it's not enough to harm housing affordability. As mort-gage rates gradually rise, fewer homeowners will look to refinance.Also, purchase originations are expected to increase as the overallhousing market strengthens.

“As we move into the 2014 home buying season, it will be a marketdominated by home buying originations rather than refinance origina-tions,” says Frank Nothaft, vice president and chief economistat Freddie Mac. “This will be the first time since 2000 that purchaseoriginations will dominate the market.”
