Christianity means the followers of Christ.The scripture which Christians refer to is the Bible. The bible is made up of The Old Testament and also the New Testament.The old testament is also of significance and used as scripture for the followers of Judaism.There are 66 books in the bible. The New Testament is divided into 5 books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Christianity is an Abrahamic Religion along with Judaism and also Islam.Just like the other Abrahamic faiths Christians also believe messengers were sent to the people to guide them.Christians believe in one god in 3 forms The Trinity. Classed as Monotheistic religion.Christianity begins with the concept of Original Sin.

4Denominations continuedEastern Orthodox Church There are around 200 million people that follow the orthodox church. These churches are autonomous or self-governed meaning they have their own head. Protestantism The Church of England's separation from Rome and the pope was bought about by King Henry VIII. The head of this church is the current reigning monarch Orthodox comes from the greek orthos right, doxa- belief

Church of England brought about in 1529 and was completed in 1536 5WorshipPrayer including the rosary.

Prayer is the key form of worship. Rosary part of Catholic worship, but was dropped by other denominations.The Rosary Prayers: The Lords Prayer, Hail Mary, Apostles Creed.Psalms Jewish in origin. Paul urged Christians in Ephesus to give thanks to God psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.Re-enactment of the last supper. Transubstantiation - that the bread and wine literally become the body and blood of Christ. Readings (lessons) from the Bible. - Reading and thinking about the texts from the Bible is the most important form of religious worship. Following the word of God (10 Commandments) make better people.

Christmas The celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Lent To most Christians lent represents the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus spent in the desert. Traditionally Christians give up something for those 40 days and nights. This is called fasting. Have any of you ever given anything up for lent? If you havent what might you? Do you know of any other religions that fast? Those Christians that give up something for lent do it to remind them of the temptation and suffering that Jesus went through in his time in the desert as they are tempted by what they have given up. Although not all Christians believe in Lent.Self-examination and preparation for EasterLent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday.Holy week is the week that leads up to Easter. It starts on Palm Sunday which most Christians view as the day when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem. On this day many Catholic's may go to church where there are processions in which palm leafs and branches are carried. Many Christians call the Thursday of this week Maundy Thursday. Some Christians believe that this day is the day of the last supper where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. In many churches money is collected and given to the poor as a way of re-enacting this. The final day in Holy week is Good Friday. Good Friday is a day of mourning the death of Jesus on the cross. This is known as the week of remembering Jesus life.EasterMany Christians believe that Easter is one of the most important days in the Christian calendar. Those who believe this also believe that Easter Sunday was the day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Some believe that he rose from the dead after being crucified on the cross on the day now called Good Friday by many Christians.Easter Eggs represent the empty tomb of Jesus. Also a bird hatching from the egg represents the birth of new life and thus some people believe that it represents the resurrection and new life of Jesus on Easter Sunday. Pentecost Most Christians celebrate Pentecost 50 days after Easter. It is known as the celebration of the Holy Spirit. Lots of Christians believe that it is a celebration of when the Christian church first started. This day is particular special to Pentecostal Christians who, for the most part, believe that they feel or directly experience the Holy Spirit in every one of their services. Advent The word advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means arrival. For most Christians advent is traditionally the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. The last Sunday is Christmas eve. Many believe that Jesus was born on Christmas day so advent is the period of waiting for Christ to be born. In many churches and homes there will be wreathes of holly. For some Christians the circular aspect of the wreath represents God with no beginning or end. In some churches it is traditional to light a candle on each of the four Sundays. The first three candles are traditionally colourful and the last candle, which is lit on Christmas eve, is white in colour as it is said to represent Jesus as the light of the world. ChristmasMany Christians believe that Jesus was born on Christmas day so on this day they celebrate with their families. The nativity is a traditional way that many Christians re-enact the story of Jesus birth.Although not all Christians observe Christmas as they believe that it is not taught in the bible.
