The answer to this question depends largely on the senior’s personal style, interests, and how many clothing changes

they’d like to do. You may even want to consider the colors of your home decor if you plan on purchasing a large canvas print.

Your yearbook picture is your first consideration. All districts require you to follow the school’s dress code. From this

point districts vary from casual to suit and tie for men. Some districts mandate the color of the background, so check the literatue they gave you for color restrictions. You may also bring the senior’s fa-vorite outfit (even if it’s t-shirt and ripped jeans!), an outfit that you

agree on, and one that reflects a sports/activity!

Think of coordinating, not matching! Think of the ads you see when you flip though a magazine, or notice store windows. Their

outfits do not match, but they coordinate well. One common theme is shades of red, white and blue, in all DIFFERENT TEXTURES and styles! Denim is your friend - it

matches everything!

If you are a casual, laid back teenager, dress as such! **Everyone is not fancy!** If you love clothing, rock a really cool

outfit with edgy boots/shoes!

Add dimention to your portraits with hats, jewelry, jackets, etc. PINTEREST is full of ideas!

Page 15: Class of 2016 Look Book & Guide - Directions

Avoid logos, tube tops, and super low cut shirts

Be sure everything is ironed and wrinkle free. This may mean changing into your first outfit when you arrive for your session!

TIPS for LOOKING CAMERA READY!!!Be sure you nails are neat and clean. Hands end up in more pic-tures than you may think! Girls, wear neutral or classic polish, not

trendy. This will date your portraits.

If you want to try different looks during your session, start with your hair down. Adding clips and

headbands can leave creases in your hair. Add these as we go along!

hisFOR A SUCCESSFUL SHOOT....here are some tips!

joe

Page 27: Class of 2016 Look Book & Guide - Directions

Bring at LEAST three outfits: Casual, trendy/dressy (well, as dressy as you feel comfortable!!!), and

ACTIVITY/SPORT

Avoid clothing with logos and words. It will distract from your gorgeous face!

If you are wearing a tie (and you don’t know how to tie it) have someone do it for you loosely so that

all you have to do is slip it over your head and tighten it up!

Be comfortable, it will show!

Bring clothes freshly pressed and on hangers!

Accessorize! If you play baseball, bring your equipment....if you LOVE your pet, arrange to

bring your furry friend! They will be sure we capture a natural smile :)

For models, if your favorite look is the scruffy look, go for it, but avoid the sloppy scruff (on your neck,

etc). If you want some with scruff and some without, bring an electric razor!

Page 31: Class of 2016 Look Book & Guide - Directions

Bring at LEAST three outfits: TRENDY (have fun with it, think magazine shoot!!!), Casual, and

ACTIVITY/SPORT (no sport...bring another trendy!)

It’s so important to wear the right undergarments! Some sheer dresses and tops require nude underwear. Bra straps should

not show, even if it is in style. Sometimes a strapless bra is a must! Avoid clothing with logos and words. It will distract from your beautiful face! Avoid super low-cut tops that show too much skin.

We like to keep it classy!

Be comfortable, it will show! Throw a trendy jacket over a plain outfit and add boots, wedges or heels, VOILA! So CUTE!

Don’t have heels or cool jackets, I do, I usually bring them along.

Bring clothes freshly pressed and on hangers with COORDINATING ACCESSORIES to save time!

Use fashion magazines, commercials, and PINTERESTfor inspiration!

Trendy jewelry, even oversized! Statement necklaces, bracelets and earrings are great!

MORE MAKEUP THAN USUAL....the camera EATS IT off your face! Don’t forget your lips....I also have tons of glosses :)LOVE lashes?! Wear some falsies! They look great!

Page 33: Class of 2016 Look Book & Guide - Directions

Remove any unwanted facial hair. Plan any brow waxing 3-4 days prior to your shoot to minimize redness.

Don’t try any dramatic new hairstyles before your senior portraits - you might regret it! If you highlight or color your hair, be sure to have your roots done about two weeks before the shoot. If you are meeting with a hairstylist and/or makeup artist, bring some photos of yourself looking your best and/or photos you find in magazines so that they may mimic the look you’re going for! Suggested stylists that understand senior style are listed at the end of this magazine! THE BEST look in pictures is either straight or long, flowing curls (long flowy curls are my FAVE! They photograph AMAZING!!! I have an oversized curling iron if you want to arrange to meet early!

Lips are often overlooked, but believe it or not they can make or break a portrait. Chapped, dry lips are NOT a good look and are difficult to edit. Bring lip gloss to your shoot and re-apply after each outfit change. You can also go dramatic with a bold red for the last outfit! Be bold! Makeup should be applied slightly darker than usual so that it comes through in your portraits. False lashes are gorgeous for model shoots!!!

Drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun a few days before your session. Red skin is not easy to deal with, peeling skin is even worse! I CAN ZAP ACNE WITH MY EDITING SOFTWARE, SO DON’T WORRY ABOUT THAT!!!

Your hands and feet will be in some of your photos, so be sure to have neatly trimmed/manicured nails. Stick to solid, classic colors, or simply a clear gloss or French mani-cure. Avoid neon or crazy colors....no chipped polish!!!

I love love love going through magazines or surfing the internet for inspiration...not to copy pictures exactly (with my own senior clients), but to identify what the

common thread is between them....Here are some that I clipped when I took a break from making this magazine.

I googled ‘senior style’ and screen shot the first seven pictures that stood out to me. I then focused on their commonalities:

ACCESSORIESTEXTURE

FLIRTATIOUSSIMPLE, GORGEOUS MAKEUP

LONG, LOOSE WAVES

Do this exercise yourself! Share pictures with me and I’ll keep a file for you! Determine what it is about them that you love and we’ll incorporate those trends

into YOUR shoot! I have many accessories in myever-growing ‘senior closet’!!!

ON TRENDLove clothes?! Show off your love for fashion by paying close attention to creating an updated, yet classic look. You want your clothes to reflect who you are, but not completely tie you to ‘fads’....be trendy, not dated! One way to do this is to wear a ‘classic’ color on your nails (no green, blue, orange, or bright white)...think reds, pinks, or even a french manicure! Keep your hair down and flowing in loose curls

for the beginning of our shoot, putting it up towards the end of our shoot! NEVER FORGET ACCESSORIES!!!

MERCHANDISE AND PACKAGES

You have a multitude of GORGEOUS shots to choose from. Now what do you want to do with them?

Make a ‘wish list’ of everyone you need to buy for, including family and friends.

You may want to buy wallets for your senior to pass out or to include in thank you notes.

What about a canvas for your home?Metal prints or accordion wallets are WONDERFUL for grand-

parents.

There are many options and NO TWO SENIORS ARE ALIKE!

Rather than limit yourself to the restraints of a package, I prefer ‘wish lists’ and let me

‘package’ it for you!

I’m more than happy to sit down with you in person OR

schedule a phone consultation with you!!!

I’M NERVOUS...WILL I BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOU?Whether you are a glamorous girl who loves shopping, a bookworm or a baseball player, you will feel comfortable with me. I frequently receive comliments from parents stating that their son/daughter felt a lot more comfortable iwth me and had a lot more fun than they thought they

would. I used to substitute teach at a Junior High School (I also taught elementary full time for fifteen years) and fell in love with the drive, energy, and beauty that all teenager posess. EVERYONE is unique and those qual-

ities are what make us interesting. I will get to konw you and plan your shoot around YOU nad YOUR goals for our shoot. Your portraits will NOT look like everyone else’s. They will truly reflect who you are. When you

can be yourself, you will shine and look GORGEOUS!

I GRADUATE WITH THE CLASS OF 2016. WHY CAN’T I WAIT UNTIL CLOSER TO MY GRADUATION DATE TO HAVE MY PICTURES TAKEN?

Yearbook pictures are generally due to the yearbook staff in late Sep-tember or early October. Most senior are photographed between June

and August. I am aware of the deadlines, sized, and background require-ments for most districts. Once I photograph you and you have chosen

your favorites, I do the rest for you!!!

CAN YOU DO TOUCH UPS FOR ACNE, SCARS, SUNBURN, ETC?YES! It is a must for many teenagers. I will also whiten your teeth, remove any lines you want removed, soften your face...I’ve even ‘cut hair’ and

added eyeliner and mascara that was smeared off in the water! I do not have examples to share (to protect the privacy of my clients.)

DO I HAVE TO USE MY SCHOOL’S ‘OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER’?No. In the state of NY it is law that my select the photographer of your

choice. I have existing relationships with most school districts!
