Claritas created a CD library of over 100 water-themed icons and illustrations for a group of small affiliated water bureaus that could not afford individual custom illustrations.
For maximum flexibility of use, each original image had several versions:
• two-color and black-and-white
• several illustration styles with different degrees of detail and formality
• file formats suitable for the web, offset printing, laser printing, and PowerPoint presentations
For maximum ease of use, a hardcopy notebook of all the images was assembled and delivered along with the CD.

The Claritas team was responsible for creating the simple, reader-friendly graphic style that was used not only for the Citizen’s Primer but also for a series of flow charts and diagrams to be placed in related departmental manuals.
Throughout this project, we worked with ODOT staff and Angelo eaton Associates staff to make these materials as economical, flexible, and adaptable for multiple uses as possible:
• The Citizen’s Primer was designed to accommodate a spanish translation with minimal effort.
• All files were created using software available to the client, so future updates could be done in-house.
• The graphics were delivered in several formats—InDesign, JPEG, PDF—so the client could import them into Word files and PowerPoint files.

The eastbank piece was one of a series of brochures highlighting Portland neighborhoods. The brochures were the same size when folded, but each contained a distinctive surprise—a diecut shape or a pop-up shape.
We worked with a writing team to create the theme material and purchased professional photography.

Our customized work teams are based on the client’s needs. Teams can range from a single person to the full five-member group with additional subcontractors.
For each project, the client contracts with one member of Claritas, who will subcontract (without markup) to the other members to simplify the contract and billing processes. subcontractors who are not members of Claritas are also billed to the client without markup. The client receives a single invoice; the team leader has the responsibility to communicate, schedule, and invoice for the team.
Another benefit of this structure is its flexible workload capacity during exceptionally busy times or during the absence of any one member. since we have the same hourly rates and compatible computer systems, we can readily expand a team to accommodate short-deadline jobs.
Our long experience working for state, county, and city clients means that we are used to working with the competitive bidding procedures and not-to-exceed budgets of public agencies, both in developing our own bids and budgets and in working with those of vendors such as offset printers.
We believe that our samples demonstrate skills in creating and/or maintaining effective, unified, and flexible visual styles, while working within limited budgets and timelines.
