WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT
June 23 2019 The Most Holy Body and
Blood of Christ Sunday
“They all ate and were satisfied. And when the
leftover fragments were picked up, they filled
twelve wicker baskets.” (Luke 9:17)

The story of the Loaves and Fishes shows us
that when we share what we have, even if it
doesn’t seem like that much, miracles can
happen! Do not think that your gift is too
small or insignificant! God blesses all the
gifts we offer and makes them wondrous.

“Todos comieron y quedaron satisfechos. Y cuando
recogieron los fragmentos sobrantes, llenaron doce
cestas de mimbre ". (LUCAS 9:17)

La historia de Los panes y los peces nos muestra que
cuando compartimos lo que tenemos, aunque
parezca que no es mucho, ¡pueden ocurrir milagros!
¡No pienses que tus dones son demasiado pequeños o
insignificantes! Dios bendice todos los dones que
ofrecemos y los hace maravillosos.

Given all of the problems with stolen credit/debit
card numbers, we want you to know this: If you
receive a call regarding your parish contribution
made by credit or debit card, please feel free to
simply say, "I will call you back." Our Parish Office
number is 5122618500 and we are open every
business day (with some exceptions) from 9:00 AM

to update parishioner's credit card numbers. This is
something that you can do yourself and we can
direct you as to how. Or, we can make the change
with your authorization. But, we do not want you
to be tricked into giving out your card number over
the phone. So again, please feel free to call us back.

Social Sunday Lead Needed
Please contact the church office if you would like to lead the once a month Social Sunday a<er 5 pm Mass.
Thank you to the Knuff family who has dedicated so much of their @me and effort to make this event a success.
Pope Francis calls each of us to witness to charity and to show God's mercy to one
another. He encourages us to"open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the
wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize
that we are compelled to heed their cry for help!"(Misericordiae Vultus [MV], no.
15).
The Peter's Pence Collection unites us in solidarity to the Holy See and its works of
charity to those in need. Your generosity allows the Pope to respond to our suffering brothers and sisters.
The purpose of the Peter's Pence Collection is to provide the Holy Father with the financial means to respond to those
who are suffering as a result of war, oppression, natural disaster, and disease.
The Peter's Pence Collection has raised nearly $190 million to support our suffering brothers and sisters around the
globe.Thank youfor standing in solidarity with the Holy See through your generosity. Please continue to pray for our
brothers and sisters in faith who are facing adversity.
The Peter’s Pence Special Collection will be taken on Sunday, June 30, 2019.
We are a Eucharistic people and today’s solemnity
celebrates this great gift we have been given to share in
the very Body and Blood of Christ. As thankful sharers in
this Eucharistic feast we are called to give witness to our
gratitude by becoming nourishment for others. We
commit ourselves to being broken open and poured out
for others as Jesus has done for us. What sacrifice are we
willing to make for others in gratitude for the sacrifice
Christ made for us?

PARISH NURSING MINISTRY
ENJOY THE SUN…BUT NOT TOO MUCH

The month of May was skin cancer awareness month, reminding us to be careful with our skin during
the sunfilled summer. American Cancer Society Data Center estimates 4,270 new cases of skin
melanoma in Texas in 2019.

Skin Cancer Prevention Tips
Seek shade, especially between 10am and 4pm.
Don’t get sun burned an average person’s risk for melanoma doubles with more than five sunburns.
Avoid sun tanning and never use UV tanning beds more people develop skin cancer because of
indoor tanning than develop lung cancer from smoking.
Use a broad spectrum “UVA/UVB” sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher; for extended outdoor
activity use water resistant SPF of 30 or higher.
Regular daily usage of at least SPF 15 reduces the risk of melanoma by 50%.
Wear sun protective clothing. Grab a hat. Keep your sun glasses handy.
 Remember your lips.

Unseen Damage for the Rest of Your Life
Even when you don’t see sunburn, if you aren’t wearing sunscreen, your skin is exposed to damage. The
damage from sun occurs over a lifetime; not in short spurts. The days on the beach or on a boat may
cause a burn, but it’s the daily lunch break walk or a morning run that keeps the damage meter running.
Sun damage is cumulative; the effects of teenage sunburns often show up in later years; ask a senior
citizen. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70.

SelfExamination
Dermatologists recommend we evaluate our skin several times a year. Look for:
 New spots, bumps or lumps
Changes to existing moles, freckles or pigmentation
Any area looking very different from the rest of skin
 Sores that won’t heal
Swelling, inflammation, redness around the border of a mole
 Skin itching, pain or sensitivity
 Oozing or bleeding
 Scalyness or thickening of skin

Your skin is an organ; like any other organ skin damage and disease can impact the entire body if left
untreated. It is a good idea to see a dermatologist for specific issues plus scheduling an annual exam.
