FIRST READING

1 Samuel 3:3b-10,

19 Here is my servant.

SECOND READING

Acts 10:34-38 God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and

power.

GOSPEL READING

Mark 1:7-11 The Spirit of God descends like a dove.

********************************** Last week we celebrated Epiphany, when Mary’s

newborn baby was revealed to the world as a king. Today we hear God’s voice revealing Jesus as the Son of

God. Both Isaiah and John the Baptist prepare the world for the Lord’s coming by describing who he is. But the

Lord did not come just to those who recognize these two Jewish men, so when telling a group of Gentiles about Jesus, Peter tells them that God accepts everyone who

believes. May God’s word bring us to a deeper understanding of who Jesus is.

* IMPORTANT INFO * Holy Innocents Food Pantry is every Wednesday at 9:00am and a special Senior Citizen Food pantry on Fridays at 9:00am

Parishioners are encouraged to give donations of cash, perishable and non-perishable food items and clean plastic shopping bags to support the program. Please call or stop by the Rectory office if you would like to donate.

All parishioners are encouraged to register

and to use their offering envelopes as a sign of commitment. If you are not

registered we cannot issue testimonial

letters in connection with sponsorship for the

sacraments of Baptism, and Confirmation.

We can give character references for positions, schools etc. only to those who

have been registered for at least three

months. Please register at the rectory office

if you are new to the parish. Please also inform us of any change of address.

FIRST READING

1 Samuel 3:3b-10,19

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.

SECOND READING

1 Corinthians 6:13c-15a, 17-20 Your bodies are members of Christ.

GOSPEL READING

John 1:35-42

They saw where he was staying and they stayed

with him. **********************************

God calls Samuel in the middle of the night in today’s

first reading. Samuel is confused, but eventually he

responds, “Speak, for your servant is listening. John’s

disciples are listening when he points to Jesus and

says,” Behold, the Lamb of God.” They follow Jesus at

once. Let us listen to God’s word, ponder how we

ourselves are called, and recommit ourselves to

following the Lord.

RESERVE A MASS FOR

YOU LOVED ONES

Stewardship Reflection

Having Masses said for a loved one at the Church of the Holy Innocents is a noble way to honor a deceased person. There is a beautiful tradition in the Catholic Church of offering Mass for the soul of a family member or friend. We encourage all Catholics to properly mourn the loss of a cherished relation or friend by having mass said in our parish. Donations are as follows:

Announced Masses $20.00

Unannounced Masses $8.00 Purgatorial Masses $15.00 Bread & Wine $50.00

Our Christmas season concludes with the Feast of

the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus was not baptized

because he needed to repent — rather, He was

revealing who He is and what He came to do.

All masses are live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person due to the pandemic. Our

mass schedule is as follows:

Monday – Saturday 8:00am Daily Mass

Saturday 4:00pm English Mass 7:00pm Spanish Mass

Sunday 9:00am English Mass

11:00am Spanish Mass 1:45pm Haitian Mass

To view our live stream you can visit our website at

www.holyinnocents-brooklyn.org. Please remember

to click the donate button to contribute to our parish.

It is from His mission that we can receive the

sacrament of baptism — when we become adopted

sons and daughters of God. From that moment, we

belong to Christ — we become His stewards. Our

lives should be a reflection of this relationship. The

way we live should reveal Whose we are.

In our First Reading, the prophet Isaiah shares a

message of hope, “Why spend your money for what

is not bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy?”

We should ask ourselves, "Who is the king of our

hearts?" As Christian stewards, it should be God.

We often fill our lives with things that satisfy us

only for a moment. If we truly do belong to Christ,

then we will make Him our top priority. What we

fill our lives with should reveal that He is King.

In our Gospel, Mark reveals the intimate

relationship between God the Father, God the Son,

and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit descended

upon Jesus and God the Father proclaimed, “You

are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

We, too, have access to an intimate relationship

with God. But like all good relationships, it

flourishes with effort. How we spend our time and

share our gifts says a great deal about Whose we

are.

Stewardship Reflection

Our readings today focus on the vital attributes of

being a disciple of Christ.

The Gospel of John portrays these attributes as he

bears witness to Jesus’ first disciples. Upon seeing

Jesus, John proclaims, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”

The lamb is a reference to the Jewish sacrificial

offering at Passover and reveals Jesus as Savior. Once

the two that were with John heard this, they

immediately followed Jesus. Jesus turned to them and

asked, “What are you looking for?” They responded

with, “Rabbi, where are you staying?”

Imagine Jesus asking you, “What are you looking for?"

We might respond with answers like a better job, more

kids, retirement, or any number of things that we think

will make our lives better. The things we seek may be

righteous, but as disciples of Christ, we should first

and foremost seek the Kingdom of God. If we strive to

respond to Jesus’ question in the same way the first

disciples responded, essentially by asking, “Where are

you, Lord?” then we will not be disappointed with the

outcome.

Our story of Jesus’ first disciples concludes with

Andrew intentionally sharing the Good News of Christ

to his brother Simon Peter. Andrew had the gift of

meeting the Lord and did not hoard it to himself.

Instead, he sought his brother and proclaimed what he

had experienced, which serves as a reminder for us.

Our calling is to be missionary disciples — to seek the

Lord and share what we have found. Our faith is a gift!

We should strive to share this gift with others. www.catholicsteward.com
