FIRST READING
1 Samuel 3:3b-10,
19 Here is my servant.
SECOND READING
Acts 10:34-38 God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and
power.
GOSPEL READING
Mark 1:7-11 The Spirit of God descends like a dove.
********************************** Last week we celebrated Epiphany, when Mary’s
newborn baby was revealed to the world as a king. Today we hear God’s voice revealing Jesus as the Son of
God. Both Isaiah and John the Baptist prepare the world for the Lord’s coming by describing who he is. But the
Lord did not come just to those who recognize these two Jewish men, so when telling a group of Gentiles about Jesus, Peter tells them that God accepts everyone who
believes. May God’s word bring us to a deeper understanding of who Jesus is
* IMPORTANT INFO * Holy Innocents Food Pantry is every Wednesday at 9:00am and a special Senior Citizen Food pantry on Fridays at 9:00am
Parishioners are encouraged to give donations of cash, perishable and non-perishable food items and clean plastic shopping bags to support the program. Please call or stop by the Rectory office if you would like to donate.
All parishioners are encouraged to register
and to use their offering envelopes as a sign of commitment. If you are not
registered we cannot issue testimonial
letters in connection with sponsorship for the
sacraments of Baptism, and Confirmation.
We can give character references for positions, schools etc. only to those who
have been registered for at least three
months. Please register at the rectory office
if you are new to the parish. Please also inform us of any change of address.

FIRST READING
Deuteronomy 18:15-20 I will raise up a prophet and I will put my words
into his mouth.
SECOND READING
1 Corinthians 7:32-35 A virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord,
that she may be holy.
GOSPEL READING
Mark 1:21-28 He taught them as one having authority
**********************************
God has blessed us with many leaders who have brought
God’s word to the people. Moses promised the Chosen
People that God would raise up a prophet among them
who would speak God’s words. Saint Paul was called by
God to preach to Gentiles all over the known world.
Jesus spoke words with power to drive out unclean
spirits, astonishing the people in the synagogue with his
authority. Let us listen attentively to the living word of
God and hear Jesus’ voice still speaking to us in our
house of worship.

RESERVE A MASS FOR
YOU LOVED ONES
Stewardship Reflection
Having Masses said for a loved one at the Church of the Holy Innocents is a noble way to honor a deceased person. There is a beautiful tradition in the Catholic Church of offering Mass for the soul of a family member or friend. We encourage all Catholics to properly mourn the loss of a cherished relation or friend by having mass said in our parish. Donations are as follows:
Announced Masses $20.00
Unannounced Masses $8.00 Purgatorial Masses $15.00 Bread & Wine $50.00
Our Christmas season concludes with the Feast of
the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus was not baptized
because he needed to repent — rather, He was
revealing who He is and what He came to do.
All masses are live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person due to the pandemic. Our
mass schedule is as follows:
Monday – Saturday 8:00am Daily Mass
Saturday 4:00pm English Mass 7:00pm Spanish Mass
Sunday 9:00am English Mass
11:00am Spanish Mass 1:45pm Haitian Mass
To view our live stream you can visit our website at
www.holyinnocents-brooklyn.org. Please remember
to click the donate button to contribute to our parish.
It is from His mission that we can receive the
sacrament of baptism — when we become adopted
sons and daughters of God. From that moment, we
belong to Christ — we become His stewards. Our
lives should be a reflection of this relationship. The
way we live should reveal Whose we are.
In our First Reading, the prophet Isaiah shares a
message of hope, “Why spend your money for what
is not bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy?”
We should ask ourselves, "Who is the king of our
hearts?" As Christian stewards, it should be God.
We often fill our lives with things that satisfy us
only for a moment. If we truly do belong to Christ,
then we will make Him our top priority. What we
fill our lives with should reveal that He is King.
In our Gospel, Mark reveals the intimate
relationship between God the Father, God the Son,
and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit descended
upon Jesus and God the Father proclaimed, “You
are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
We, too, have access to an intimate relationship
with God. But like all good relationships, it
flourishes with effort. How we spend our time and
share our gifts says a great deal about Whose we
are.

Stewardship
Reflection
Stewardship of Possessions: Resolve to
possess a little more “lightly” this year.
Consider ways you can reduce the amount of
all that stuff you own.Distinguish between
those items that are necessary and those that
are considered luxurious and unnecessary.
Stewardship of the Parish Family:Resolve to
serve your faith community in creative way
given the new limitations on some parish
activities. Is it time to enhance your generosity
to the parish?
Stewardship of Money: Resolve to render
sacred your annual budget.Reprioritize your
financial goals to ensure that the Lord comes
first in your spending. Take positive steps to
improve your financial health
