Welcome to Blessed Sacrament Parish! We hope that all residents of the Valley Stream area can feel at home in our parish and strive to be an active part of our faith community. Please take a moment to stop in the Pastoral Center Office to fill out a membership form and to meet a member of the Pastoral Staff.

THE CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENTS

Anointing of the Sick Those who are seriously ill or in danger of death should arrange to receive this Sacrament as soon as possible. For those able, you may come to the church at any time to request to be anointed. For those unable, please contact the parish office and one of our priests will come to you at home or in the hospital. We encourage those who are preparing for a planned hospital stay to celebrate the Sacrament before entering the hospital. Please note, that new safety protocols may limit the priests’ ability to anoint in hospitals and homes. Call to find out options.

Baptism Infant Baptisms are usually celebrated the Third Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM and on the Fourth Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM in Spanish. Parents & godparents are asked to attend a Baptismal Preparation class prior to the Baptism. Please contact the parish office as soon as you find out that you are expecting. Any child over 7 years old who has not been baptized should also be enrolled in parish Faith Formation and will need to attend classes for a time before being baptized.

Marriage Please contact the parish office as soon as you become engaged and not less than six months in advance of your anticipated wedding date. Contact the parish prior to making your reception plans to ensure date availability. All couples are required to attend a Diocesan Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation Program.

Reconciliation (Penance, Confession) Confession is on Saturdays between 12:00-1:00 PM and can also be heard by appointment.

Eucharist & Confirmation Inquiries for Eucharist (Communion) and/or Confirmation for all school-age children should be made to the Director of Evangelization, Guenevere Neuhedel.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) For adults seeking Baptism, Communion, and/or Confirmation or even simply inquiring about the Catholic faith. Call the Parish Office at (516)568-1027

Holy Orders and the Consecrated Religious Life The celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Orders is reserved to the bishop. Any young man who believes he is being called to serve God as a priest should speak to one of the parish priests or contact Fr. Sean Magaldi the diocesan vocations director, at 631-424-9888. Any married man who believes he is being called to serve God should consider becoming a deacon. For those who are considering serving God as a consecrated sister or brother, please also contact the parish office or contact Fr. Magaldi.

On November 5th our parish celebrates its 71st Anniversary. What a gift that we have continued 71

years of serving the northern part of Valley Stream and beyond. As you are aware, we had our

70th Anniversary last year. Although we were planning a great get-together celebration, Covid took

precedence. We were looking forward to celebrating with all of you and wanted to extend our

gratitude to all of those that have given so much to keep our parish family alive and active in the

community in faith and worship. As we turn 71 years this month, I want to thank everyone who made

it possible. Special gratitude to our parishioners both past and present and to all my predecessors.

There are many improvements and renovations which desperately need our attention on our parish

campus and my first concern is the condition of the front church steps. For months now, I have been

talking about our front steps in the bulletin. Over the years and with this past winter, with record

snowfall, the steps are crumbling, and have become a safety issue and needless to say, an eyesore as

well! We have been getting estimates to complete this work and the cost will be approximately

$40,000. This is a very big undertaking, and it has been giving me sleepless nights on how we could

raise this money in this pandemic, but our delay, pondering, and silence cannot solve our problem.

We need to act to save our Church.

I do understand the financial situation this pandemic has left most of us, but I am asking those who

have been blessed by God to consider sharing their gifts. We are asking for the participation and

sacrifice of all members of our parish family both past and present, young and old to make this a

reality! I am pleading to each family to please contribute something to this project no matter what the

amount. Any young person who is working and is willing to help could please do so. Anyone willing

to ask his/her friend to help our parish in this project should please do so. We are asking for help to

enable us to start this work by the Spring of 2022. All donations, no matter the size will be recognized

and acknowledged. The names of donors who contribute $2,500 or more will be recognized in our

permanent Campaign Book located in the Rose Ave vestibule.

As parishioners have been asking for additional options for memorials, like the tree of life, we will be

installing a plague in McKeon vestibule, along with adding rocks and doves to accent the tree of life.

This is another way to help. A memorial is a special way to show appreciation to God who is the giver

of all gifts. We will have available a New Memorial Plaque, an extension of the Tree of Life, in the

McKeon Ave. vestibule, along with the Our Lady of Guadalupe plaque (for $200 each) and a Dove

($500 each) or Rock ($600 each) Memorial in Rose Avenue . Please see the enclosed form for further

information. All intentions taken will be used to support our step restoration.

This is a parish-wide project, and we are praying that with your help, we can start planning these

much-needed repairs. I continue to thank you for all that you do or have done in the past to make

our parish a vibrant community! It has been a great 71 years of service and with your help, we are

determined to do more.

Please contact the office with any questions or concerns,

At your service and His,

The Christian men comprising the Knights of Columbus since March 29, 1882 and the members of the Saint Therese, The Little Flower, Council Number 2622, here at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament since December 6, 1926 all remember to Keep Christ in Christmas. You should too.

Follow in the footsteps of all great men that have come before us. I ask you to help us pave the way for the future of all Christians we are to lead.

Join us and become a Knight of Columbus and hold your head up high as we begin a new year filled with the promise of a better tomorrow. Join us for daily prayer and the constant commitment to our Lord with random acts of kindness and compassion for all.

Keep Christ in Christmas and Merry Christmas to All, begins the day our Lord Jesus Christ is born on December 25 so shout it out loud and clear so you are to be heard by all. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and to all a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Parish Social Ministry

Our Food Pantry is open by appointment only with curbside pick-up. Food

assistance is available for those who live within our parish boundaries. For days

and times for food pick-up please call 516 561-8969. If no one picks up please a

message and someone will get back to you a soon as they can.

GIFT CARDS to KING KULLEN or KEY FOOD The reason why we ask for Gift Cards is to allow people who use our pantry to purchase items we may not cur-rently have on our shelves. The people who come to our pantry are always very appreciative of what we are able to give them. Having the honor and pleasure to serve so many for over 20 years I too am very grateful for all your generosity. Through the years the people we serve have become more than people in need but they have also become friends. Over the years I have asked on several occasions what else can we do to help regarding the food we give out. They are always so hesitant to answer that question because they are so grateful for the items they are receiving and do not want to sound unappreciative. When I explain to them you will be helping me and all those who support our pantry because we want to do the best we can do to help not just you but others who are facing a difficult time. They start to open a little bit and share their thoughts. Here are some of the things the shared with me, that I would like to share with you: Macaroni & Cheese is great but it can sometimes be difficult to make because it needs milk and butter. Shelf Stable Milk is a treasure it can be used for the Mac & Cheese and their children can use it in the cereal we give them. Oil is a luxury. Tea bags, Coffee and Hot Chocolate make them feel like they are really cared about. Sugar and Flour are treasures. Tuna and crackers make for a good lunch. Peanut Butter and Jelly also make a good lunch if there is bread. (We rarely get bread for them to make a sand-wich) Butter or margarine is nice to have. Eggs are really special. Cake mix and Frosting make it possible to make a child's birthday cake. ( You need the eggs) Toiletries are another luxury (which are not allowed to be purchased with the SNAP program. Along with clean-ing products and paper goods). I would like to share with you that we rarely get meat. I very much appreciate your food donations from our Food Pantry Needs list and hope you continue to donate those items. But I also wanted you to know why we occasionally ask for Gift Cards. Gift cards are also a perfect way to give to the pantry if you prefer not to shop. Again thank you for all your support and generosity and please know you all making a difference in the lives of so many in need! Peace, Judy Miccio

The LCSC Ministry invites you to deepen your faith and participation in Sunday

Mass by meeting weekly in a small faith sharing group called a Household of

Prayer. Each group reads and reflects on the Scriptural readings for the coming

Sunday, in order to prayerfully connect The Word more fully with their daily lives.

There are four Households of Prayer, which are currently meeting virtually, as

follows:

Mondays at 7:30-9:00PM Lilly Gicala

Wednesdays at 7:30-9:00PM Anne Marie & Jeff Konzet

Weeknights at 6:30-8:00PM Mirlene Laurenfort

Fridays at 8:00-9:30PM Win Previl

Please fill out the form below, tear off and return to the parish office or call 516-

568-1027.
