Reading Strategy of the Month

Mystery Word Skill: Vocabulary Develop-

ment Using any vocabulary words your child has worked on, give your child clues to the identity of the word. You may want to give a definition or just the vowels or the consonants. For an extra challenge, use a timer and challenge him/her to beat the clock.

Attendance The importance of consistent attendance cannot be stressed enough. Whether being absent or tardy, at-tendance plays a big role in a child’s success in the class-room. Even being tardy just a few minutes can influence a child’s daily routine. A con-sistent and reliable morning schedule can set the tome for the rest of the day. Re-search has shown that con-sistent school attendance correlates highly with posi-tive student achievement.

Moveable Monday There is a moveable Mondays this month: Wednesday, Jan-uary 23rd. They will follow a Monday Schedule on that day. What this means is that your child will have P.E., so don’t forget the sneakers!

Important Dates Jan. 2 - Classes resume Jan. 5— - Moveable Monday Schedule Jan. 9- Donuts with Dad -AR Night Jan. 10—PTO Meeting 6:00pm Jan. 16—Spelling Bee Jan. 17 - End of 2nd Nine Weeks Jan. 18- Teacher Work Day (moveable) Jan. 21 - No school Martin Luther King Jan. 23 - Moveable Monday Schedule - AR Night Jan. 25—Winter ASEP Registration begins Jan. 25—Report Cards go home -5th Grade Musical Jan. 28—Club Pictures Quick Reminder:

• Please encourage your child to bring home their water bottles every night. To be rinsed and washed This will help reduce the risk of spreading a cold or flu.

• Genius Hour projects are finishing up. These are done at school, but your child may need to bring supplies from home to help them finish their vision for the project.

Please continue to save and send in your used dryer sheets. They have been great for cleaning off the white boards during instruc-tion and are Earth friendly too! I have noticed a big de-crease in the amount of tis-sues used this year, and I credit the use of dryer sheets for the white boards.

Snow Days

With the weather becoming steadily colder, the chance of snow increases. Please make sure your child knows what to do in the event of an early dismissal. These are times when the snow starts mid day and we have to dismiss sud-denly earlier than normal from school. In the event of a delay

or closing, you can log on to the Loudoun County Public Schools website for infor-mation, or listen to your lo-cal television or radio sta-tion. . In the event of a one-hour delay students are to report to school at 8:50, and at 9:50 in the event of a two-hour delay.

Used Dryer Sheets Glue Sticks

Please ask your child if they are in need of glue sticks. Glue sticks are available to “buy” for Dojos, but often the children don’t want to spend their Dojos on school supplies when they use it up during the day.
