19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection Imagine yourselves on a boat in the middle of a storm. The

waves rise all around you and the wind rocks the boat. Such was the experience of the apostles in today’s Gospel. And in the midst of the storm, they see Jesus walking towards them on the sea. They were terrified and did not recognize Him. Peter, bold and outspoken as ever, asks: “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water” (Mt 14:28). Jesus obliges, but Peter, paying more attention to the wind and the waves, begins to sink.

This is a lesson for us. Some of our life experiences resemble that boat rocked by the storm. And here is an invitation to center our attention on the Lord, regardless of how dark and difficult things are around us, because He never takes His eyes off of us.

In the first reading, Elijah is told to go outside and “stand before the Lord” (1 Kings 19:11), who was not in the wind, or the earthquake or the fire, but in the tiny whispering sound. Let us learn to quiet our souls before the Lord so that we may hear the tiny whispering sound that announces His presence, and place full faith and trust in Him, no matter the difficulties that surround us. God bless you!

Following Archdiocesan norms, new security bollards have been installed in the parking lot across from the plaza. Each of them has been embedded with the Cross of St. Benedict and the Miraculous Medal, asking our Lord and His Blessed Mother to guard and protect us.

Thanks to your generosity and to the help of the Emmaus Men, we continue to serve the needy at the Grove Outreach. God bless you!

St. Louis Bernard

Beaulieu, MPE (1840-1866) — Canonized in 1984 by St.

John Paul II with the holy martyrs of 19th century Korea, Louis Bernard Beaulieu was born in Langon, France, on October 8, 1840. From his widowed mother he received a solid Christian education.

At the age of 9, he entered the Minor Seminary in Bordeaux, and the Major Seminary at the age of

17. In June, 1860, he was accepted as an aspirant at the Seminary of the Foreign Missions in Paris, where he was ordained a priest in May, 1864, and appointed to Korea despite the ongoing religious persecution.

As soon as he arrived in Korea, his new Bishop, Monsignor Berneux, sent him to a mountain district southwest of Seoul. There, life was extremely difficult. The presence of any foreigner, and let alone a priest, is prohibited by law ... Difficult, dangerous and courageous apostolate ... For a while Louis Beaulieu hides in the mountains, but he is denounced, arrested, tried, condemned and beheaded on March 8, 1866. His memorial is celebrated on May 21.

ST. HUGH NEWS NOTICIAS DE LA PARROQUIA

In spite of the pandemic, the Church continues to grow. In the past few months we have celebrated seven weddings and fourteen baptisms at St. Hugh, in addition to registering several people who were received into the Church in other parishes. Let us keep them all in our prayers.

Although parish activities are restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our expenses and the need for repairs and maintenance continue. Please help us to meet these needs and to continue providing our live streaming service by donating online at sthughmiami.org/church/donate-online. You may also mail in your contribution to the office.
