Matthew Crane ADVENT: THE LITTLE LENT Before the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, the penitential character of Advent was clearer to the casual observer. Advent was enriched with obligatory fasting and abstinence, just like Lent. Though briefer than Lent, Advent still pinched, and helped to prepare for the coming of Christ. Even after the Council, the preparatory nature of Advent is still significant. Though there are no obligatory calls for penance, it is a good season to start a regular practice of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Aside from the usual times, starting the Friday of the Second Week of Advent, I will provide the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Friday from 4 to 6 PM at Christ the King in Browerville until the start of the Christmas Season. We do not know the day nor the hour, but it has always been in the imagination of Christians that an appropriate day for Our Lord’s Second Coming would be the day we mark his First. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Matthew Crane

Do you know God’s plan for your marriage?

Natural Family Planning is a reliable and trustworthy way to regulate fertility, is easy to learn, and can be a source of unity for couples. To be sure, using NFP requires sacrifice and patience, but sacrifice and patience are not obstacles to love, they are a part of love itself. Used correctly, NFP forms gentle, generous husbands, and selfless, patient wives. It can become a school of virtuous and holy love. For additional informa-tion, visit www.stcdio.org/omf/nfp. A First instruction class in the Billings Ovulation Method will be offered in: Long Prairie on Monday, No-vember 28 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. For more information, or to register, contact Victoria Bul-cher at [email protected] or 320-360-5193. The class is approximately 1½ to 2 hours long.

Please turn in any unused Turkey Cards to the local Food Shelves or leave in the church entrances or Christ the King School by December 1.
