Parking Lot update: We’re continuing to make progress toward our new parking lot on Long Ave. Some usable items are still in the existing structure; call the parish office to inquire about them and to schedule
removal.
We are in need of funds to continue this project. We’ll be asking for YOUR help!
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin: Because this feast falls on Saturday, it is not a holy day of obligation this
year. However, we will have a
Vigil Mass for the Feast on Friday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m., as well as the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Saturday morning.
Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa: Next weekend, we will have a second collection to support the church in Africa. While the church there is growing,
many Africans face the challenges of high rates of pov-
erty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund supports pastoral projects across the continent that nourish the people of this young and vibrant church. Your donations will be most gratefully accepted.
Second Sunday Coffee: today after the morning Masses. Stop in the Gathering Space and share a cup of coffee and a
donut or bagel with your parish family. Sponsored by Sausage Fest.

Catechetical Sunday is September 20
this year. Those serving as catechists will be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful
opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Bap-tism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. We thought
you’d like to hear from some our catechists in our Religious Education program at Christ the King:
As a catechist, I have been given the opportunity to share my time and talent with the parish children. And
in generous return, I have met and worked with great people, made new friends, been surrounded by energet-ic, enthusiastic kids, and have been given endless op-portunities to learn about, practice, renew and share my
own faith with great joy. Helen Ghirardo, Early Childhood Religious Ed Teacher
Involvement in Christ the King's religious education program has been an essential part of our family life for
the last five years. We believe we are on this journey together and it really has enhanced our commitment to our children, to each other, to our parish and to God. It has allowed us to be a part of our children's spiritual life as well as being a part of others. It has been an incredi-ble experience.
Erin Lee, Elementary/Middle School Religious Ed Assistant For me the greatest reward is watching the spiritual
development of the children. We are all asked to "go forth and proclaim the good news of the Lord". As a parent and teacher I want to help our children under-
stand what we have been asked to do and encourage them to live their lives sharing the message of God's great love with others. Pat Lee, Elementary Religious Ed Teacher
We've been blessed to be a part of the religious educa-tion program at CK. We have grown closer as a family teaching our kids (and others) at all different ages about Christ's love and the Catholic Church. It is so re-
warding to get to know the children in our parish and watch them grow in their faith. What a wonderful parish we have at CK! Michelle & Dan Saueressig, Middle School Religious Ed
Teachers

Carmelite Corner
Living in God’s Presence (4 of 10) Excerpts from Chapter 9, Living in God’s Presence, Climbing The Mountain, The Carmelite Journey, edited by Johan Bergstrom-Allen, TOC, St. Albert’s Press & Edizioni Carmelitane, 2010
Carmelites are committed to a life of prayer as the best way of growing more aware of God’s presence. Carmelite spirituality can sometimes seem complicated,
but it is really very simple….(it) invites us to live within God’s presence, to sit at the feet of Jesus, to look at him and to listen to him.
Saint Teresa of Jesus (of Avila) said, ‘We need no wings to go in search of him but have only to find a place where we can be alone and look upon him present with-
in us.’ (The Way of Perfection, Ch. 28). She tells us that getting to know God in prayer is a matter of nurturing a relationship: ‘Prayer…is nothing more than
an intimate and frequent dialogue of friendship with the one whom we know loves us.’ (Life, Ch. 8.5)
In order to appreciate living with God’s presence we must learn to know God, and to know God as someone
not something. God does not force his presence on us, but invites us to come to know him – to ‘come and see’ as Jesus said (John 1:39).
For additional information about the Lay Carmelites, contact Rebecca Moak at 509-460-1608.
Eucharistic Devotion
SUNDAY HOLY HOUR/FRIDAY ADORATION In the Chapel on Sundays, 1:30—2:30 p.m. and Fridays: Exposition at 8:30 a.m., Adoration all day, Benediction at 5 p.m.
Ignatian Spirituality
Five hundred years ago, Ignatius wrote that both intellect and feelings were gifts from God, and both make a person whole. He said that feelings were im-portant for discernment. At the time, many deemed this concept to be dangerous nonsense. (Some people still believe that today.) But the realization that our
emotions can be trusted grew from Ignatius’ expansive, optimistic view of how God relates to his creation. God loves us so much that He deals directly with us through our thoughts, abilities, and feelings. Ignatius believed that we can trust God, and also trust the human experience – desires, inclinations, likes, dislikes – and even our flighty feelings. The Exercises
help us learn how to do this.
SEEL Tri-Cities Invites you to retreat

prayer life, or finding a spiritual director? The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) could be just what you need. This year’s retreat runs from September 12, 2015 to May 14, 2016, with monthly meetings on the second Saturday morning of every month.
