News of Jesus Christ with members,

Dear Friends in Christ,
I want to share with you a piece of my prayer life
that has developed over the last couple of weeks. It
has been of great benefit and growth for me, and so
I share it with the hope that someone else might find
it helpful. A few weeks ago, I noticed that I had
been praying frequently for the Lord to grant me
patience. It did not seem as though the Lord was
granting my request. In the spirit of trying some-
thing different, it occurred to me to simply pray as a
form of confession. I prayed something like, “Lord, I
am impatient.” I continued in prayer with something
like, “But You are infinitely patient.” I started to do
this with other aspects of my life as well. While I get
angry, God is slow to anger and abounding in love.
Although I sometimes covet what is not mine, God
satisfies the hungry heart. I have enjoyed a lot of
patience, peace, and grace focusing on God’s
abundance where I am lacking. Instead of dwelling
on what I need, I am focusing on who God is and
what He promises. It reminds me of quitting a bad
habit. You can drive yourself nuts reminding your-
self, “Don’t do that…don’t do that!” Before long, you
are doing that bad habit again
because it is all that you can
think of! But instead of dwell-
ing on the bad habit, what if
we dwell on the giver of every
good and perfect gift? Jesus
Christ says that you will have
peace IN HIM. The only promise of the world is that
we will have trouble. But Christ has overcome and
handed you the victory. The lesson and result of
spiritual growth for me has been to center my pray-
ers on the one who hears them, instead of strictly on
what I need. I have found that meditating on God’s
goodness has reaped goodness for me, and conse-
quently for others. May the presence of Christ
guide your prayers and your life as well.
Yours in Christ’s grace,
Pastor Grunklee

We have several new books on our shelves. A few of the new titles are:
“The Lives and Legends of Buffalo Bill”, by Don Russell. In this biography, the whole career of Cody is pre-
sented including the truth behind the legends.
“Ernie Pyle’s War”, by James Tobin. An engrossing biography of Ernie Pyle, America’s eyewitness to World
War II
“The Holy Thief” by William Ryan. A first-rate crime novel: a genuinely memorable detective, a powerful
story, and a convincing setting. Moscow, 1936.

“Wilderness Escape” Vacation Bible School for 2014 is now history. What an exciting
week we had as Moses (Roger Pamperin) and Malachi (Brian Pamperin) taught the
children about their travels through the wilderness. Teachers and helpers for the
Tribes of Simeon, Benjamin, Asher, Issachar, Joseph, Levi, and Reuben gathered their
children twice each night for lessons, to learn Bible verses, and help them learn new
songs during opening and closing. They made beautiful craft items and played games.
Snacks were provided and great meals were prepared and served by a host of people.
We were honored to have a number of children from the community come to learn of
Jesus. Special thanks go to Pastor Grunklee, Candy Schoppa, and Jackie Watkins who planned and
orchestrated the whole event!

help them. The collection will be continued through next Sunday, July 6. The requirement is for white tube
socks, preferably 100% cotton (slightly lesser cotton percentages will be accepted). They may be deposited
in the basket in the narthex.
