Shih Chien University, formerly known as Shih Chien College of Home Economics,

was founded in 1958 by Mr. Tung-Min Shieh. The name “Shih Chien,” which in

Chinese means “practice”, was originated from the belief of Wang Yangming, a great

Chinese philosopher: “Knowledge is the beginning of practice. Doing is the completion

of knowing”(1498).

Today, the University is made up of the College of Human Ecology, the College of

Design and the College of Management. The University has one campus in Taipei and

another in Kaohsiung and is home to approximately 15,000 students and 700 faculty

and staff.

Over the past 50 years, Shih-Chien has established strong visibility and is well

renowned among the Taiwanese and international universities. The School of

Summer Chinese Program

The Short Term Summer Program at Shih Chien University offers intensive

Mandarin lessons and culture-experiencing activities. The program includes 28 hours

of practical training in Mandarin language, and a variety of cultural activities. There

is also a weekend excursion to the northern part of Taiwan (meals and accommodation

included). Our study companions will be recruited from Shih Chien students, who

are native speakers of Mandarin, to help you improve your Mandarin. The program

is recommended for students who have minimal or no proficiency in Mandarin.
