There are many ways this can happen.

There are a lot of things that can go wrong

in the womb and after the birth of an

infant. I will lightly cover the following:

♥Cerebral Palsy

♥Autism

♥Mental Retardation

This is not one

condition

alone, but a

grouping of clinical

syndromes. These

syndromes effect

movement, muscle tone and

coordination. This is

a life-long disability.

This is a

developmental

disorder that has

life-long effects.

Social interaction

and

communication

are sometimes

significantly

effected.

This effects both

intellectual functioning and

adaptive behavior. Has IQ

of lower than 75.

MR originates

before the age

of 18.

DME (durable medical equipment)

come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and

uses. DME is not limited to this

powerpoint. There are many different

kinds out there!

I have included some examples that

children with these disabilities might

use.

You must be referred

to an

Occupational

Therapist. The

Therapist must then

write you a

prescription for the

DME.

OT uses everyday activities with individuals

for the purpose of participation in roles and

situations in home, school, workplace, community, and other

settings. OT promotes health and wellness to those who are not able

to function. The goal is to get the individual as

close to independent as possible.
