EWI of Chattanooga is awesome!!
From Valentines, renewal forms, “No Dirty Dishes”,
to Spring Conference Growth Experience, we cover it all!
Proud to be a representative of EWI of Chattanooga!!
What an awesome group EWI of Chattanooga is! The Valentines were
remarkable and you ladies have outdone yourselves once again! Thank
you all so much! I hope everyone received and read their message
from Melissa Gratias and her husband, Dr. Eric Gratias. The Valentines
were a great hit with the children.
We have completed the membership renewal forms for Corporate and have met the dead-
lines. Thank you Kristina, Carrie and Carolyn for all of your hard work in getting this accom-
plished! We are so proud of our firms that renewed and we are proud to have the new firms that
have joined the EWI Chattanooga chapter.
The donations for “No Dirty Dishes” are completed and tickets to sell will be distributed at our
March 8th meeting. Each of us will be part of this successful adventure by marketing the desig-
nated amount of tickets and then some!
EWI 2011 Spring Conference “Leadership: A Growth Experience” is planned for April 14-16,
2011. It will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Those who attend will be staying at the Tulsa Marriott
Southern Hills. I hope some of us are able to attend this enriching Spring Conference. Please
give it some thought and let me know by March 31, 2011 if you can attend.
Those who wish to submit an application for the Fellows Program through EWI, must complete Form 47 from the EWI Corporate website. The deadline for the completed application is May 31, 2011. For further information, please contact Jody Hermann or Nancy Harrison for detail on the Fellows Program. They are both graduates of this pro-gram!
Our next chapter meeting is March 8, 2011 at the DoubleTree. Caroline Johnson will be our
speaker. She is the program presenter for the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. I look for-
ward to seeing everyone that evening! Please make your plans to attend!
Spring has sprung in my neighborhood! The flowers and bushes are blooming sending ―ole man
winter‖ away! Let him be gone and everyone get their new spring in their step!
Sincerely,
Margaret Browning

Where: Doubletree Hotel 407 Chestnut Street
Parking: Free Parking in the open lot beside the hotel or $8.00 Valet Parking
Speaker: Caroline Johnson
City of Chattanooga
Traffic Engineering Division
Drivers Education Coordinator
Caroline Johnson Bio:
I‟m the 3rd of 4 children of a former NFL player/college football coach/sales executive and art teacher/watercolor artist. By the time we settled in Chattanooga when I was 12, I had lived in 7 different cities. I went to GPS, graduated from UTC with a B.A. in Theatre & Speech and proceeded to get married and have 3 babies within 4 years. While raising them as a “stay-at-home” mom I worked as a substitute teacher, PTA president, secretary at a small real estate company, manager of a family-owned business and cared for my elderly in-laws. After my divorce 9 years ago, I worked briefly in human resources and was a patient treat-ment coordinator in 2 dental offices. I‟ve been with the City‟s Traffic Engineering Division for over 2 years and became the Drivers Education Coordinator in November 2009. I am active in the TN Teen Safe Driving Coalition and hold memberships in the Traffic Safety Coalition, the National Organization for Youth Safety, Partners in Prevention and the Advisory Council on Traffic Safety. I‟ll be a program presenter this year at the Governor‟s Highway Safety Office‟s “Prevention Prepared Communities in Tennessee” conference.
I have 3 grown children, all of whom, I‟m happy to say, live here in Chattanooga, have good jobs and love to spend time with their mom. My daughter is getting married this fall, so I look forward to adding a son-in-law to our brood. I‟m very happily remarried and am helping to raise a 16 year old stepson. My hobbies include singing (yes, I do weddings, funerals, special events…), hiking, playing tennis and reading.
I‟m absolutely thrilled to have been given this opportunity to work with the city‟s new Drivers Education Pro-gram. It‟s an important and innovative program which should serve as a model for other municipalities in providing a means to properly train our youngest drivers and responsibly use photo enforcement funds to improve traffic safety and save lives.

I wanted to let you know that the EWI Valentine baskets were a big hit. I was “introduced” to several of them last week and this weekend by excited children. Some of the ones I saw included a Dalmatian box that was named “Spot”, a dog mailbox/house named “Doggy” and a ladybug that didn‟t have a name but had a very happy 2 year old hugging it. The kids absolutely loved them!!!!
Please send on my thanks to the women of EWI for bringing a real day-brightener to some of my kids who spent Valentine‟s Day in the hospital.

Melissa’s Organizing Tips for March
Easy Tips To Reduce Distractions and Interruptions
Culprit #1: The Phone
Designate specific times to return calls and block them out on your calendar.
Schedule call times with clients and colleagues (just like a meeting).
Make sure you leave a detailed message to avoid a return call.
Culprit #2: Email
Disable automatic notifications of new messages
Complete an action item first thing in the morning before looking at email
Check email at specific times of the day only and use a timer.
Culprit #3: Uninvited Visitors
Avoid eye contact when co-workers walk by your desk.
Stand up when others walk into your office; the meeting will be shorter.
Post a sign on your door – e.g., ―Working on an important project.‖
For more productivity tips, please go to www.mbgorganizing.com and sign up for my free monthly newsletter.

Membership Committee Report
By: Carrie Harlin
We welcome new member firms City of Chattanooga, representative Kathie Fulgham;
and Covista Inc, representatives Jackie Barry and Debbie Poe. Also, we welcome new
member representatives Debbie Toon and Beth Martin of the Krystal Company; and new
representative Rachel Bartlett of Chattanooga Office Supply.
Help us reach our goal to recruit 11 new firms to our Chattanooga Chapter by researching
prospective members. Always keep EWI in mind as you talk to your friends and business
acquaintances to see if they would be a good fit for our chapter. Remember, when you
tell others about EWI let them know about our scholarships for single moms to UTC, Chattanooga State, and
Southern Adventist University. We are here to serve the community in such a special way.
How to recruit new members: before speaking to the potential new member, email me first. char-
[email protected]. We need to make sure the potential firm is not in competition with any of our current mem-
ber firms. Once the board has approved, then we send it out to our entire membership for their approval. Note
- objections must come from the executive of the firm, not just the member. After all approval has been made,
the lead who submitted the name will be contacted to invite the potential member to a meeting. Please feel free
to contact me if you have any questions or need help. We have a running list of industries or classifications
that are still available for recruitment.

Rachel Bartlett COS Business Products COS Business Products & Interiors is a full service consultative company that specializes in print ser-vices, asset management, office furnishings, ad specialties, and office supplies. Rachel is new to COS, and started as a sales con-sultant only a month ago. She notes she is thrilled to
be a part of this company, and looking forward to contributing to the growth of the business. When she‟s not at work, she is a single mother to a 6 yr old little boy and 2 Australian shepherds. She is a member of the Mys-tique Cycling woman‟s race team, as well as a competitive rower with the Lookout Rowing Club. She is originally from Michigan, but moved down here to attend Lee University for college and fell in love with the area and stayed. Rachel states, “I say “coke” and “ya‟ll” now, and have a deal with my family to not visit from Halloween to Easter- only dur-ing the „thawed‟ months. I‟ve officially given myself over to the south!” When asked why she joined EWI, Rachel notes that the opportu-nity was presented to her by the owner of COS when she started work and “I jumped at the chance to have an association of pro-fessional women to network with and draw knowledge from. I‟m excited to be a part of EWI in Chattanooga and am looking for-ward to getting to know its members.”

How Safe is your Domain Name?
When you think of business assets, physical items probably come to mind first: the building you own or are purchasing, your equip-
ment, your furniture. You insure these items against loss. (If you need insurance call Kerry Smith with EWI member firm State Farm
today.)
What about your intangible assets? Your electronic client files are highly valuable and irreplaceable. You perform regular backups.
And you periodically check your backup to be certain you can actually reinstall the backed up information. You keep the backup
disk or drive off site.
Have you considered the safety of your domain name; also known as your web address or URL? There are ways to protect this
highly valuable and irreplaceable corporate asset.
1. The user name and password for both your domain and hosting providers should be in the company's permanent record, accessi-
ble to two or three trusted individuals.
2. The contact information with both providers should be updated as needed.
3. The domain name should be owned by your company, although your web developer or hosting provider may be listed as a tech-
nical contact.
4. Your domain registration renewal date should be noted in the tickler systems of two or three staff members.
If your domain name registration is managed by an outside source, ask about their process for tracking and secession.
Loss of your company website and email can be devastating. There are domain name grabbers watching your domain expiration
date, waiting to grab it. There is typically a grace period where you can renew without penalty, but why take the risk? Track your
domain name expirations, user names and passwords, and protect your company investment and internet branding.

www.ewichattanooga.org Company News and Dates To Remember
Hello EWI Ladies!
For the past several years, I have enjoyed being a Board Member/Event Coordinator for the Helene DiStefano Fund - Providing assistance to mothers with cancer during financial cri-sis. Here’s a brief introduction for those of you who are not familiar HDF:
HDF was established in 2001 by Dr. Deborah DiStefano to honor the memory of her mother, Helene DiStefano, who died in May of 2000. Helene DiStefano was a loving mother and grandmother who believed children should be sur-rounded by love and laughter and that particular care should be given to children who are forced to endure especially diffi-
cult circumstances growing up.
Families are devastated by cancer. Many moms must quit their jobs due to this illness. In addition to the loss of the mother’s income, family finances may be jeopardized again when the father has to take a leave of absence to care for the mom and the children. These financial results are an added blow to what is an already extremely stressful time for the families. This puts these families in an extreme financial crisis which often leads to inadequate funds for mortgages, food and clothing - i.e. the basic necessities of life. This could force the mom to continue to work despite her need to recuperate and fully heal. She also needs quality time to continue to nurture her children. What better way to heal than to be with fam-
ily.
HDF is regarded by the IRS as a 501c (3) public charity. Since it is almost all volunteers, 95% of the monies ob-
tained are given back to the families in the greater Chattanooga and North Georgia area.
On April 7th the Helene DiStefano Fund will hold its 10th Annual Luncheon and Silent Auction at the Doubletree in Downtown Chattanooga at noon. I have attached an invitation with several ways to support HDF. Please don’t hesitate to call me with any questions at 423-314-7864.
All support is appreciated more than you’ll ever know!

Dear EWI Sisters –
Lynda Childress and I are members of the Circle of Red Society for the American Heart Association. We are dedicating our time and energies this year to educating women about our #1 killer – heart disease. It is so important for us, as women, to take this issue seriously because many of us see heart disease as a “male problem.”
On Wednesday, April 27th at the Convention Center, the women of Chattanooga will
join together at the annual Go Red for Women luncheon. This amazing event will in-clude breakout sessions for fun and education as well as food and fellowship.
I have three requests:
1. Educate yourself on your risks and what you can do to improve your heart health. Check out the Better U program at http://www.goredforwomen.org/BetterU/index.aspx
2. Encourage your firms to support the Go Red for Women event. Please email me the name of a decision–maker in your firm with whom I can speak about sponsorship opportunities. Your firm‟s support will be appreciated and publicly recognized.
3. Follow me on Facebook, LinkedIn and/or Twitter to receive tips to improve your cardiovascular health. I am posting tips 2 – 3 times per week.
Thanks for taking care of your beautiful selves.
Sincerely,
Melissa Gratias
