Many others are drawn to read/reread Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si: Care for our Common Home. This is not about blame, it is about responsible stewardship. Observing these events at a safe distance via TV, can you find an active, positive response in your own pattern of living that is environmentally responsible? Faith Formation Tentative 2018-19 Schedule

November- 4th and 18th

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time "Son of David, have pity on me!" Has the cry of Bartimaeus ever es-caped your lips? Today's Gospel tells the story of a blind man with a difficult lot in life. He made a living by begging coins from passing travelers. When word reaches him that Jesus will be passing by, this is when he begins his shouts for mercy. Jesus hears Bartimaeus' cry and beckons him forward. "What do you want me to do for you?" Last week, Jesus asked a similar question of James and John. Their response was a clutch for fame. Bartimaeus' response is much hum-bler. "Lord, I want to see." How strange this interaction must have seemed to the onlookers. The man is blind! Of course he wants to see! But Jesus is always teaching us. By asking us what we want, Jesus reveals the dispositions of our hearts. God already knows them, but do we? By asking James and John to name their ambition, their selfishness is exposed to them and to the other disciples. By asking Bartimaeus to name his longing, his faith is exposed to the entire crowd. Jesus invites participation in our own redemption. He doesn't save us without us! Take some time in silent prayer today. Place yourself in this story of Bartimaeus. Imagine yourself there on the dusty, crowded roadside. Jesus is calling you! When you stand before him, his focus is on you and you alone. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asks. Search your heart. How would you re-spond? What part of your heart is Jesus asking you to expose? He has come to heal and to restore. May we, too, be sent! "Go ... your faith has saved you."

Rosary during the month of October Thank you for praying the Rosary during the month of October. Would you please offer the intention for the clergy sexual abuse mis-conduct crisis and for Bishop LaValley. Please start the Rosary at least 20 minutes prior to Mass. Many people like 5 minutes of quiet time prior to Mass. Always have a per-son lead the Rosary

Environmental Stewardship

Did you know that in the first half of the 20th century people con-sumed more non-renewable resources than in all of humankind’s previous time on earth? Consider this week what non-renewable resources that you use. Are there any that could be reduced? I.e. Studies show up to 30% of the difference in miles per gallon is due to driving habits alone. We could save more than a ton of CO2 per year by accelerating slowly and smoothly, driving the speed limit, maintaining a steady speed and anticipating stops and starts.

You Must Become Fire!

Community Christmas Basket Program

The Community Christmas Basket Program will be soon underway. I’m writing because I want everyone to know that this is my last year to coordinate the program. There is a need for this program, but I feel that it’s time for someone younger to take over. I certainly do not do this

project alone. Many, many people come forward to help in a variety of ways. People have donated so much for the needy of the area, year after year. I’m constantly amazed and appreciative of the generosity of those in our rural area. Anyone who even thinks they may be interest-ed, or even if you would like to look over the paperwork to see what it involves, is more than welcome to e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 518-497-6656. you can also go through the process with me if you want. I have an extensive binder that has detailed info of ex-actly what to do, who to contact and when. Of course, it is a large pro-ject, but going through this step by step and enlisting the help of volun-teers, it really does go smoothly. Always remember that it helps so many children and adults in our area. Sincerely, Betty Cook
