Video tape format

a. 8mm, Hi8mm, and Digital 8 8mm is a consumer format which was introducedfor palm-sized camcorders.Hi-8 is an improvement on the 8mm format and

was introduced primarily for industrial customersthat could not afford expensive, broadcast-quality equipment.

Digital 8 video is recorded on Hi-8 tapes exceptthat the video information is digitally compressed

before being recorded to tape.Note that 8mm, Hi8mm, & Digital 8 videocassettes are the same size and have similarappearance. Advantage – Smaller sizeDisadvantage - requires an 8mm camera or deck inorder to view the videotapes.

Video tape format

a. Mini-DV DV is the first high-quality videotape formatavailable to the consumer market. This format digitally compresses each videoframe to allow video information to bestored on a very narrow tape. The Mini-DV tape enclosure was designedto work in palm-sized digital camcorders.

Storing Methods Audio and Video signal information have many storing methods

i. Vibration method

ii. Magnetic methodiii. Optical/Film methodiv. Electronic method

v. Using Laser Method

The principle of Recording and PlaybackMagnetic recording method is commonly used tostore video and audio signal is divided into THREEtypes:

i. Longitudinal Recording ( Rakaman Memanjang )ii. Transverse Recording ( Rakaman Melintang )iii. Helical Recording

Longitudinal MethodLongitudinal Recording is only suitable for lowfrequency because the wavelength with tapemovement speed that is limited.

Require a long recording tape.

Transverse RecordingThis Transverse recording suitable to be used forhigh frequency but need tape that is wide( lebar ) isnot suitable to be used for domestic tape /

portable.

Helical Recording

Helical recording was a method that is mostsuitable because does not require tape that too wide and long. Therefore, this technique is

suitable for various uses of the recording.

Between all three systems recording only Helicalsystem that is best due to recording shapedinclined( condong ) is compared Transverse

recording system and Longitudinal recordingsystem.
