Welcome –Julie Lynn Martin-Borba, Collaborative Coordinator
• Agenda review – Lance Hunter stood in for Julie (who literally had no voice).
Information Presentation
1. Ceres Adult School – Elias Sanchez & Irene Vera, Community Liaisons
• A presentation was provided, as well as a handout of the Sprig 2019 course offerings.
• Registration for Spring 2020 semester begins November 4, 2019.
• High school diploma courses are offered through an Independent Study model through an online curriculum.
• GED classes are offered in English and Spanish.
• English as a Second Language courses are offered for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.
• Community classes are offered in a variety of areas; including:
• Computers 101
• Excel
• Intro to Ag Welding
• Paraprofessional training
• Sub Teacher Workshop
• Office Manager Workshop
• Custodial Workshop
• Quickbooks Accounting class
• RICA test Prep/NCLB Test Prep
• Citizenship Class
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Pharmacy Technician Program

2. Modesto Junior College – EOP&S and Care Program – Tanya Smith, Program
Specialist
• A presentation was provided, as well as multiple handouts regarding EOP&S and Care programs at MJC.
• EOP&S is the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services program originally introduced as a Senate Bill in 1969.
• Since that time, this program has become part of Ed Code. Specifically, Education Code: Article 8, Section 69640.

• To qualify – student participants must be financially disadvantaged, academically disadvantaged, must actively attend EOPS orientation and program services, must attend three formal check in appointments throughout the year to remain eligible, and finally students must have an unmet need.
• EOPS provides to student participants:
• Transfer Services
• Tutorial Services
• Educational Plan development
• A book loan program
• Academic tracking and alerts
• CARE program – Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education
• Serves EOPS participants
• Must be receiving TANF
• Single Parent/Head of Household
• Provides: a. Workshops b. Grants c. Child Bonding Activities d. Gas Cards e. Retreats f. Meal Tickets g. Child Care Reimbursements h. And more!
• College Readiness Summer Workshop
• 6-Week Summer Session
• Open to recent high school graduates
• Offers courses in: a. Guidance b. Study Skills c. Health
• Services include: a. Books and materials at no cost b. Meal tickets c. Field trips d. And more!

3. ASES Program – Lance Hunter, Ceres Unified School District
• The ASES After School Education and Safety Program is provided at every elementary and junior high campus in Ceres, including Whitmore Charter, Lucas Dual Immersion, and Beaver Leadership Academy.
• The ASES program is free to all students with a valid program registration form on file.
Mission Statement:
The Ceres Community Collaborative is committed to meeting the needs of the families of Ceres and the surrounding community.
We are dedicated to coordinating resources that empower and support individuals and families to learn and grow.
• The mission of ASES is to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all students after school who attend ASES and to build quality, trusting relationships with students and families!
• ASES serves over 3,000 students each day.
• The ASES program includes 4 main elements: o Supper or snack o Academic Support o Enrichment o Recreation/Sports
• Over 300 staff work in the ASES program, receiving consistent trainings and evaluations.
• The ASES programs strives to improve. 4 quality standards were chosen for the 2019/2020 year:
• Active and Engaged Learning
• Quality Staff
• Continuous Quality Improvement
• Healthy Choices and Behaviors (imbedded in all program services)
• A survey was provided to this group to complete and turn in.

Upcoming Events and Partner Announcements
1. Upcoming Activities – City of Ceres Parks and Recreation
• The Winter/Spring 2019 Activity Guide has been released.
• Copies are available for pick up at the Ceres Community Center
• The 31st Annual Christmas Festival and opening of Christmas Tree Lane in Ceres is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th, 2019.
• The event will include performances from local groups, activity booths for children and a parade through Christmas Tree Lane.
• Volunteers are needed for set-up 12-3pm, running booths 5-8pm and clean up 7:30-9:30pm.
• Other activities are outlined in City of Ceres Winter-Spring Activity Guide
• For more information, please contact the Ceres Parks and Recreation Department at 538-5648.
2. Letters to Santa Charity Program
• Volunteers are needed to serve as secret shoppers for this program.
• If you are interested in serving as a secret shopper – please contact Julie Lynn Martin-Borba at [email protected] and note the date and time range you can volunteer.
• Volunteer Dates: November 9th and November 23rd
• Time frame 8am to 12pm each date.

Why EOPS
What was the climate in the 1960s and early 70’s
1. The proportion of minority students enrolled in community
colleges did not reflect the ethnic demographics of the
communities state wide.
2. Students were not well received or well served by the institution in their community .
On September 4, 1969 the California Community College recognized their inability to
serve this population and accepted the funding and its regulations in the hope of
better serving this population.
3. Students were seen with foreign lenses by the people that were paid to serve them; staff
faculty and administrators

EXTENDED OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM AND SERVICES- 101
Students must attend an EOPS orientation
Student must have an EOPS application, an abbreviated Ed plan and
Mutual Responsibility Contract
Once in the program students must make three appointments to remain eligible
In order to receive EOPS financial services the student must have
unmet need. (that’s why they must apply for financial aid)
