Credit -worthiness

Nowadays your Facebook page is used to

validate employment or confirm identity. It is

also used as a red flags indicator for

irresponsible spending or fraud.

Some lenders might assume friend behaviors

mirror your own, since people typically

surround themselves with like-minded people.

E.g If you like or share posts from friends

related to gambling, frequent financial troubles

or spending rent money on designer purses, it

might cause concern about your own reliability

and spending habits.

On a more positive note, many say Facebook

has the ability to identify potential new

borrowers who qualify for credit but haven’t

had easy access to it.

Facebook for work

Facebook is ready to make work as

addictive as socializing. The company is

launching its enterprise communication

and collaboration network Facebook At

Work next month.

Facebook At Work subscribers can use the

product’s special “Work Feed” of posts

from colleagues to exchange ideas and

assume tasks. Facebook intends to keep

individual employees engaged with the

product, so the pricing plan will charges

companies “per monthly active user”

Facebook intends to conquer the stigma

that it’s for fooling around, not getting

work done.

media during the Arab Spring as a

revolutionary wave of demonstrations

and protests (both non-violent and

violent), riots, and civil wars in the

Arab world represents a highly

It is the first time in history that Social

Media was acknowledged to being

instrumental in chaging a government.

google, videos, articles?

1. Social media profiles and

pictures

Page 22: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

The Internet and Social Media can be used to

learn a lot of relevant and practical skills through

youtube tutorials and online content including e-

books, journals etc.

There are many platforms used to give information

that relates to entrepreneurship/business enabling

people start ventures, as well and learn new or

improve on the skills sets they already have. Some

of these learning online platforms include Google

for Africa Digital Marketing Skills

https://digitalskills.withgoogle.com/, Microsoft’s

Data Science https://www.edx.org/course/data-

science-orientation-microsoft-dat101x-0 & Khan

Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/ amongst

others.

Have you done your research? Use of tools

like google scholar

Are you leveraging social media to learn and

understand the market?

2. What do you want to do

(business/skill)?

Page 23: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

There are various platforms that will enable one to

learn how to plan and manage the time they spent

online including the type of information they should

share and how they can share it.

Various platforms like FreeBasics by facebook

https://0.freebasics.com/desktop, and, Intel’s “She

will connect” address various issues through

enabling people to access and contribute to

relevant relatable content.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/technolog

y-in-education/she-will-connect-africa-video.html,

1. Are you goal oriented?

2. Do you have a plan?

3. How do you manage your time?

Social Media Addiction:The

New Productivity Killer

Page 25: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

You go on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to see

what people are saying about you and other

people you know. While this may be interesting, it

is nothing more than gossip and is unproductive in

the business world.

Stop reacting to what's on social media, but

instead use it purposely. Think about how you

want to use it to promote your business

expertise and help others with their problems.

When logging on daily, post one idea that

showcases your company as an expert and

reply or promote three ideas from others that do

the same in your industry. Promptly log out.

1. Interested in gossip than a

business strategy

Page 26: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

Some people go on social media with a business

purpose, but the Internet hyperlink puts you one

click away from checking on who your high school

girlfriend is now married to and what your college

friend is working on. You also share things

personally that can hurt your professional brand.

Social media can and should be fun. Separate

the times you log on to social media for

business and for just plain fun. This separation

is critical to remain productive.

2. You are too social.

Page 27: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

Social media notifications beg for attention and are

constantly interrupting your day. It gives that jolt of

dopamine that the brain craves. Many people go

looking for interruptions as a way to be busy

without facing what really needs to get done. Not

only are many hours lost due to these

interruptions, but the work that does get

accomplished is of lower quality.

Shut off all notifications. Only check updates at

specific times during the day for set defined

periods. At the start, use a timer.

3. You use it as a distraction.

Page 28: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

You use it as a one-way advertising tool to directly

pitch your products to anyone who will listen.

While social media is one of the four Ps in

marketing (promotion), only posting

advertisements of your products is the easiest way

to get ignored.

Direct product pitches should be rare on social

media. They should account for less than 5% of

your total posts and interactions. Instead, follow

an action plan as described in the first step.

4. You use social media to directly

sell products.

Page 29: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

You think you're building relationships online from

your office and no longer need face to face

meetings. While social media can provide

connections, they are weak at best.

Social media is no substitution for face-to-face

interactions to create strong business

relationships. However, it can be used

effectively before and after meetings to retain

and support a relationship. Build special lists

inside of Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin to

follow the activity of these customers and

comment as appropriate.

5. You substitute social media for

meeting customers in person

Page 30: Celestine Ukpere's WYA Strathmore Cconference

“Today’s workers incorporate social media into a wide

range of activities while on the job,” explain Pew Center

researcher Kenneth Olmstead and University of

Michigan School of Information professors Cliff Lampe

and Nicole Ellison. “Some of these activities are

explicitly professional or job-related, while others are

more personal in nature.
