SANTA LUCIA PRESERVE IS A LIVING LEGACY

THE LAND

The 20,000 acres, comprised 2 land grants and about 100 homestead par-

cels, all consolidated by the Sargent brothers in 1857. Today, that land

holding is intact with 18,000 of its 20,000 acres held or managed by

the privately- endowed Santa Lucia Conservancy; all of which meanders

through 297 home sites; a number limited in perpetuity and privately held.

COMINGS AND GOINGS

Three remarkable custom homes have been paired with new owners, each

starting a new chapter in their own lives. Club Members, who have enjoyed

living in a seascape have now put roots down on Preserve sun-drenched soil

in a home new to their family – there is great joy and excitement being shared

in these warm summer days. Another sought more room to play and more

accommodations for the increasing guest list. As this home is enjoyed they

bid a fond farewell to the smaller abode now being made available for a new

resident ~ it is for sale. Finally, the third home welcomes new residents to the

Monterey Peninsula from the Mid-West, as they create a retreat in this spe-

cial part of the world, enjoying the astounding climate, culture and natural

beauty of Carmel, we look forward to helping them find their way around.

and we welcome new members; 4 to The Ranch Club and 1 to The Preserve

THE LEGACY

The Preserve is a living, breathing tapestry whose breath is the energy of

each family that makes it part of their lives. Of the finite 297 home sites,

118 families have built remarkable custom homes that reflect their shared

values, ethos and lifestyle. Of those, 16 are available for purchase, opening

a door to new families who choose not to build but to move in and enjoy.

Of the remaining 179 home sites, about 20 are in the spectrum of building

and 49 are available for purchase. Today, when a home site is sold, a new

family is beginning to weave their part of the tapestry bringing a new energy

and life to the community. The life, the breath, the shared experiences are

that of a community and the living legacy of Santa Lucia Preserve.

As one of the last remaining, intact, land-grant Ranchos of the early 1800’s

~ The Preserve can tell a story. Over the last 200 years, many of its like

properties succumbed to the whims of a new generation and their ideas

of fashionable living at the time, eventually being sold off in pieces. Such

transitions interrupted the rhythm of the place, continuity and health of

the land. The Preserve is a modern guiding light for sustaining a “place” for

all generations to have the freedom to live out their individual legacy while

keeping the whole protected in perpetuity.

The Preserve’s heartbeat rests at its 1920’s Hacienda with 16 guest rooms and year-round dining with fresh ingredients from our one-acre organic garden paired with the fruits of renowned local vineyards.

And by day, the adventure is on…an 18-acre lake, 100 miles of trails, pools & water slide, croquet, bocce, tennis, pickleball, community softball games and an Equestrian Center are the foundation of a full day. Enjoy the vibrant social life or create your own interpretation, where the day’s only limitation is one’s imagination.

A Test and a Treat ~ The Preserve Golf Club offers a test of shot making skills for the avid golfer and a welcoming treat for families and new golfers alike.

Tom Fazio’s course design has brought strategy to the scenery, making every round both a test and a treat, a serene walk in the woods that will prove re-warding no matter who wins the battle between golfer and ground. A host of unique tournaments & events highlight the year-round social scene at The Preserve.

For those that are new to the game, there is an enthusiastic teaching staff offering private and group lessons, junior golf clinics and the new family tees open the possibility of a game well played.
