Stewardship of Finance OC TOBER 17, 2021

One of the biggest steps in the area of stewardship is to become intentional givers. That is one who has planned out how much they will give each week. This is done prayerfully and intentionally by deciding how much to give to charity and to support the church. All of the ministries and liturgies are supported by your giving. When you prayerfully set aside what you’d like to give so that it’s not just a last second decision to put in some change it shows your intentional choice to give back. If you haven’t thought about giving back before, maybe this is a good time for you to do it this weekend. In the month of the Holy Rosary, take some time to pray a rosary and think about what you can give to your parish. I know it will fill you up to know you are part of building up the kingdom of God.

Amen? Amen.

Online GivingOne way to make it easy to give financial support is to sign up for online giving. You can give once or sign up for recurring donations. You can also choose to donate for other special feast days. Online giving makes monthly donations reliable which is the best practice for supporting your parish. It also makes re-cord keeping easier. If you’d like to try online giving go to your webpage and you can sign up! https://giving.parishsoft.com/App/Giving/stcecilia

Beacons of LightTo be heard and stay informed about what is happening go to the

webpage and sign up. This is the best way to stay updated on all of the information and changes that are being made.

The troop has grown from 24 girls, to an amazing 48 girls! Several of the program levels are nearly full, but they do have eight spaces in the Pathfinder level (kindergarten, ages 5-6). For more information please email: [email protected]. (The Tenderhearts are pictured at left.)

“Let the Creed be like a mirror for you. Look at yourself in it to see

whether you really believe all that you claim to believe. And rejoice every

day in your faith.” – St. Augustine

CATECHESIS (kat’i-ke’sis) n.What is purgatory?

Purgatory, often imagined as a place, is actu-ally a condition. Someone who dies in God’s grace (and therefore at peace with God and men) but who still needs purification before he can see God face to face is in purgatory. [1030-1031]

When Peter had betrayed Jesus, the Lord turned around and looked at Peter: “And Peter went out and wept bitterly” – a feeling like being in purgatory. Just such a purgatory probably awaits most of us at the moment of our death: the Lord looks at us full of love – and we experience burning shame and painful remorse over our wicked or “merely” unloving behavior. Only after this purifying pain will we be capable of meeting his loving gaze in untroubled heavenly joy. (YOUCAT question 159)

Can we help the departed who are in the condition of purgatory?

Yes, since all those who are baptized into Christ form one communion and are united with one another, the living can also help the souls of the faithful departed in purgatory. [1032, 1414]

When a man is dead, he can do nothing more for himself. The time of active pro-bation is past. But we can do something for the faithful departed in purgatory. Our love extends into the afterlife. Through our fast-ing, prayers, and good works, but especially through the celebration of the Holy Eucha-rist, we can obtain grace for the departed. (YOUCAT question 160)

Know Your SaintsSt. Bonaventure (1221 - 1274)

Bonaventure, Franciscan, theologian, doctor of the Church, was both learned and holy. Because of the spirit that filled him and his writings, he was at first called the Devout Doctor; but in more recent centuries he has been known as the Seraphic Doctor after the “Seraphic Father” Francis because of the truly Franciscan spirit he possessed.

Born in Bagnoregio, a town in central Italy, he was cured of a serious illness as a boy through the prayers of Francis of Assisi. Later, he studied the liberal arts in Paris. Inspired by Francis and the example of the friars, especially of his master in theology, Alexander of Hales, he entered the Franciscan Order, and became in turn a teacher of theology in the university. Chosen as min-ister general of the Order in 1257, he was God’s instrument in bringing it back to a deeper love of the way of St. Francis, both through the life of Francis, which he wrote at the behest of the brothers and through other works which defended the Order or explained its ideals and way of life.

God speaks in whispers and we live in a loud world. Hear-ing God’s voice amidst the noise and busy-ness of our lives can be difficult. But He is always there to guide and help us, and He has given us other people and resources to help us, as well. If you think God may be calling you to religious life and you need someone to talk to, call Fr. Dan Schmit-meyer at 421.3131, ext. 2890.

Fall Bible Study: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Bible• Mondays 7 - 8:30 PM starting October 18 at St. Cecilia Parish (Commons) • Material Cost: $25

Many Catholics want to read the Bible because they know it is God’s Word, but they give up because it seems so complicated. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible helps you get the “big picture” by showing how fourteen narrative books of the Bible tell the complete story from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will help you discover the story of salvation history and under-stand how you fit into God’s plan. This 8-session study program explores all twelve time periods of The Bible TimelineTo register, go to our parish website www.stceciliacincinnati.org > Click on Faith > Click on Bible Studies.

Mass Intentions. If you have any particular intentions for which you would like to have a Mass offered, please contact your parish office. Intentions are often requested for those who have died, but may include any kind of need that your or someone you know is experiencing for which prayer is needed.

This year we will continue our tradition of having a Feast of All Saints Parade of Saints at the 10 AM Mass on Sunday, October 31 at Saint Cecilia. All children in the parish are invited to participate in this wonderful event. Parents should simply have their child dress as his or her favorite saint and bring them to the St. Joseph side of the Church at about 9:45 AM that morning. The “saints” will en-ter the church from the St. Joseph side entrance one at a time or with siblings and make their way to Fr. Jamie at the front altar, where he will introduce them to the congregation. They will then go to sit with their families in the congregation. Following mass, there will be a “trick-or-treat” reception for them in the church’s side yard.

Be Baptized and Sent—on Mission in the World! Today, World Mission Sunday, in this Extraordinary Missionary Month, we are called to personal encounter with Jesus Christ alive in the Church, and to offer, through this Eucharistic celebration, our prayers and our generous financial support, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to continue the mission of Jesus. Today we are “sent” out to witness to Mission in the world through our prayers and personal sacrifices for our brothers and sisters around the world. As little as…

TOB Children’s Rosary Gift SetAny rosary is a gift. This gift for a child can ignite a lifetime of prayer. Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray the Rosary every day. Our invit-ing Children’s Rosary helps to start this daily devotion. The colorful beads are a delight for children to hold and make tangible the On a Mission to

Love family rosary experience. It is adorned by the Theology of the Body inspired Unity Cross — to inspire the mystery of the depth of God’s love for each of us — and our appropriate response to receive it!www.ruahwoodspress.com/product/tob-childrens-rosary-gift-set/

Works of Mercy: Fall EditionThe Lord gave us a new commandment when he said, “love one another, as I have loved you” (John 13:33). And believe it or not, this is the meat and potatoes of what we call the “universal call to holiness:” the call to love. When we love, we give flesh to the reality that we were made “in the image and likeness of God,” thus being “little Christs” to our fellow man. And as our faith tells us, love is more than just a feeling, “love is willing the good of another.” And as Pope St. John Paul II notes, “mercy is love’s second name.”

On Oct. 30, in preparation for All Saints Day, our parish will be inviting all young adults and young families to consider fulfilling works of mercy in our community. Please share with us an opportunity you might have for volunteers to assist with (or maybe there is someone you know who needs help around the house, etc.) OR if you would like to volunteer yourself, please email [email protected] or call (513) 871-5757 ext. 206 to learn more!

Stewardship of FinanceThe vision for St. Cecilia Parish is to continue to grow and remain vibrant and life-filled: to have beautiful and welcoming liturgies, to keep the reception of the sacraments readily avail-able, to provide social events and ministries that touch hearts and create encounters to give everyone the opportunity to grow with Jesus.

In order to accomplish this, it takes the generosity of all of us. Giving can be hard for some, and may not be a habit for oth-ers. If you are not regularly contributing to the parish, consider Online Giving—https://giving.parishsoft.com/App/Giving/stcecilia. It’s a convenient way to give to our parish so that there are resources available in the “storehouse” for God’s work to be accomplished — building the Kingdom of God in Oakley.

Being generous with our money for the sake of others is a reflection of the generosity of God toward humanity. When we give unselfishly of our financial and material resources, we show Christ’s loving face to those in need, in a very practical and tangible way.
