Worthy of the Call – One Student’s Perspective

I've been going to the Venice Diocese Youth Rally three years in a row, this year having been my last before graduation. Every year is enjoyable and spiritual in many ways. The sheer number of Catholic teens at this event is amazing and really makes one feel proud to be a Catholic. There are vendors, music, and games as well as the talks that we all experience. No matter what, I think every-one there finds something they enjoy, be it the music or the games or the spirit-uality. The speakers this year were wonderful, both entertaining and informa-tive, as well as wonderfully spiritual. I had the honor of meeting the speaker from the girls' talk, Lisa Cotter and I thought she was very nice. Another great thing they have every year is confession, a service I know many of us are grate-ful to have there. His Excellency, Bishop Frank Dwane is there every year and I love that he walks around the compound during dinner break to meet with us teens and take photos with us. After dinner we have a small concert with the band that visits and then we have Adoration, an amazing experience when you are surrounded by so many others. It is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop and practically feel the prayers of everyone there. By far though, my favorite part every year, is the half-mile long walk to Sacred Heart Church for Mass at the end of the night. It's amazing to walk down that road and have townspeople come out of their homes and businesses to see the Eucharistic Procession. Some gawk, others videotape, but most wave to us on our journey. One elderly man came out of his house and stood on his porch, waving vigorously at us. Me and a few other teens from different parishes waved vigorously back as we walked by. Some people even say the Rosary while we walk. I joined three other girls from our parish during the Rosary and while I can't speak for them, I can say I felt close to these girls for the first time since I've known them. Upon reaching the church, Mass began and as always it was packed to standing room only. Howev-er, it was still an amazing way to end the night. All in all it was another wonderful experience and I would recommend any teen to go to the rally at least once. I have loved it every time I have attended, and encourage more of our youth to go to this amazing experience next year. EGL – 12th Grade Student

November 20,2016 Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe December 11, 2016 Third Sunday of Advent

I realize that this is a sad time for all of us at St. Frances Cabrini. The passing of Fr. Dave is still a shock to us and as we grieve our loss, I want everyone in the parish to know how much he meant to all of us. His experience was a helpful guide for me and his kindness in sharing it made the transition much easier. I can only imagine how those who knew him longer must feel. My door is always open to those who need help through their grieving process. We all should take comfort in the large attendance at the prayer service, funeral mass and the reception afterward. While many had to leave after the mass we did serve almost three hundred dinners. To all of those who worked hard throughout the week in the planning, the preparations, the activities and the cleaning up I want to extend my sincere thanks and God’s blessings for all you did. Yours in Christ,

Fr. Jim

It’s that time of the year again…. Company coming, gifts for grandma

and grandpa, mom and dad, hus-band or wife, teens, tweens and

children. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to please them all without all that

mall shopping? Scrip has everything you need… department and home improve-

ment stores, movies, restaurants, gas stations, grocery store….

Something for everyone on your list Stop by the ticket office at the front

of the church. There is someone there to help you

after masses. Now, wasn’t that easy? Time left

over so put your feet up and enjoy your favorite holiday beverage.

Faith Formation Christmas Pageant Las Posada

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. This means that preparations for the Faith Formation Christmas pageant are fully under way. We are excited to announce that the pageant will be on the Sunday before Christmas, December 18th at 4:30 PM in the Cabrini Center. Many of the children in the Faith Formation program, from grades Pre-K through high school, will be participating in this pageant. The script for the pageant will be new this year. The children will be pre-senting “Journey to the Inn: An Advent Celebration.” It will be a reenact-ment of the story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to find shelter. The cele-bration comes from the Spanish missionaries who wanted to introduce Christ and His beloved mother to the New World. The Spanish missionar-ies referred to these ceremonies as Las Posada – meaning “the inns” or “the shelters” – as they gave emphasis to Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter before Our Savior’s birth. Parishioners are encouraged to join the Faith Formation families for this wonderful Christmas experience. Light refreshments will be served after.

Gaudete Sunday

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your forbearance be known to all, for the Lord is near at hand; have no anxiety about an-ything, but in all things, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiv-ing, let your requests be known to God. Lord, you have blessed your land; you have turned away the captivity of Jacob."

REFLECTIONS FOR ADVENT ADORATION PREPARING FOR THE CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS: GIFTS Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 PRACTICE: Uncle Henry: Tenth annual funny tie Aunt Sara: ramekins Cousin Pete: electric screwdriver Cousin Jane: exercise mat Grandson John: nerf gun Granddaughter Emily: glitterglam jewelry maker Fido: Dog treats shaped like a Christmas tree 10 gift cards for teachers, lawn service crew and others. Review your Christmas gift list. Does it look a lot like the one above? Sit with your Christmas list and ask yourself what it has to do with Jesus' birth? Ask yourself why we even give such gifts to others to celebrate Jesus' birth? Do any of your gifts reflect your faith? Are any of your gifts going to help your family and friends be closer to Jesus? Put your shopping list aside and consider a gift that would make Christ happy, one that would honor His birth. Consider the following: Reflect on the above passage. Jesus tells us to come to the altar with a clean heart and a clean soul. What do you personally have to do to fulfill His wish? Then consider Jesus’ words to Saint Faustina about the gifts and offerings that please Him: Jesus: … A single act of pure love pleases Me more than a thousand imperfect prayers. One of your sighs of love atones for many offenses with which the godless overwhelm Me. The smallest act of virtue has unlimited value in My eyes because of your great love for Me. In a soul that lives on My love alone, I reign as in heaven. I watch over it day and night. In it I find My happiness; My ear is attentive to each request of its heart; often I anticipate its requests. O child, especially beloved by Me, apple of My eye, rest a moment near My Heart and taste of the love in which you will delight for all eternity. But child, you are not yet in your homeland; so go, fortified by My grace, and fight for My kingdom in human souls; fight as a king’s child would; and remember that the days of your exile will pass quickly, and with them the possibility of earning merit for heaven. I expect from you, My child, a great number of souls who will glorify My mercy for all eternity…” Diary of St. Faustina, Entry 1489

What gift will you give Jesus, the King of Kings, this Christmas?

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday 9:00am to 2:30pm in the Chapel of Adoration. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed at 2:00pm every Friday. All are welcome. If you would like to join The Adoration Program at St. Frances Cabrini call or email Alice Burns 919-306-6292 [email protected].
