December 15, 2013 - Third Sunday of Advent| 3

Dear Parishioners:

Grace and peace be to you as our liturgical year be-gins! First, I would like to thank Fr. Adrian, Fr. Arturo, Fr. Luis and the parish and mission staffs for all the extra work they took on to keep everything running smoothly during my sabba cal. I felt so comfortable that the par-ish was in good hands that I was able to concentrate on all the tasks given to the priests in my renewal pro-gram. For six weeks, we prayed, walked in the woods, shared the highpoints and the difficul es of our lives. It was a wonderful program. It was nice to get off the treadmill of my life, but I am also delighted to be back. I purposefully scheduled my sabba cal so I'd be back in

me for Advent. Advent is a me of longing, of desire, of wai ng, of recommi ng ourselves to our lives as disci-ples of Jesus. In theory, as the days become darker and nature herself slows down, we too should turn inward to prepare ourselves for the great Feast of the Incarna on -- Christmas. In reality, for many of us, our lives actually speed up during this Advent season and perhaps that is simply the way things are. We have wonderful celebra-

ons here at the Parish. We have all the ac vi es associ-ated with Our Lady of Guadalupe, we have the Posadas, we have Simbang Gabi, and many reconcilia on services offered throughout the Diocese. Added to all this, we have Christmas par es at work and all the other things we want to do to celebrate the holidays. But if you are like me, perhaps you are a li le too busy. I invite you and I remind myself also, to try to have a few minutes every day to invite the Lord more fully into your heart. I find in my own life, the closer I try to stay to Jesus and His presence in the Sacraments of the Church, my life works be er. And what I mean by that is that in spite of the busyness of our world and some mes the daily has-sles that we all have; problems and stress, these don't strike to the core of my being. I would like to thank you personally as Pastor for all of you who contributed so generously to the disaster relief fund for the vic ms of the Typhoon in the Philippines. I personally was touched by the commitment of our parish to the needs of our brothers and sisters in the Universal Church. I would also like to thank those who con nue to give to the ongoing support of our parish as well as con-tribu ng to our special collec ons such as the Building Fund and Christmas fund for flowers. I pray daily for you and ask God to bless you for your generosity and com-passion.

Fr. David Gaa, OFM Pastor
