Greetings Art Lovers! Hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far, seems like after the 4th of July the season just flies by! Speaking of the 4th, I would like to thank everyone who helped make our 48th Annual Art Festival happen; and I’d like to congratulate our participants on another beautiful, diverse exhibit (both the Adult and the Student Shows)! Just think, in two years the CAS will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary! We are hoping that all our members will volunteer some of their time to help make this Grand Event a success! The CAS would like to thank Susan Gates and the entire Board at the Center for the Arts for their continued perseverance in keeping this wonderful venue alive and open in Chelmsford. Their commitment to the Arts is greatly appreciated. Please support them by attending a show or two! Coming up on August 27 th at the CCA from 10:00 – 4:00 check out their “Taste of Art” and enjoy food, music and a fine art fair on the front lawn. Starting in the fall, thanks to Helen Moriarty, we have some great demos and lectures lined up. Info will be posted online and in our newsletters. Nan Quintin is currently collecting info about upcoming events and exhibits, Calls for Artists, etc. to publish in our newsletters. CHELMSFORD ART SOCIETY NEWSLETTER

“North Shore”

by Tom Gill

The following information is for the first two CAS demonstrations

this Fall. See attached page for a complete listing of programs.

The Chelmsford Art Society will meet for these demonstrations at

7:00 PM at Chelmsford Center for the Arts, 1A North Rd.,

Chelmsford, MA. The meetings are free and open to the public.

Wed., September 28, 2016 – Tom Gill, Acrylics Painting

The Chelmsford Art Society is featuring noted artist, Tom Gill, who

will demonstrate acrylics painting. The artist was born in Lowell, but

raised in Chelmsford, where he started painting at 10 years old. He

had his fine art education at the Art Institute of Boston.

Tom, who was also a rock musician in the '80s, developed his own

style of painting. He notes, "I feel like I'm making music when I'm

painting -- and that's why there's rhythm in my paintings." The result

is always loose and impressive with harmonious colors that interplay

with light.

Well known in this region, the artist is a member the North Shore,

Rockport and Lowell Art Associations as well as Chelmsford Art

Society. The Enterprise Bank owns a number of Tom's works in their

collection displayed in their 22 branch offices. "His paintings are the

centerpiece in all of our branches and some of our office spaces."

says founder and chairman of the Enterprise Bank, George

Duncan.

Wed., Oct. 26, 2016 – Mary Ellen Brown, Pastel Painting

The Chelmsford Art Society presents Mary Ellen Brown who will be

demonstrating Pastel Painting. Now living in New Hampshire, the

award winning artist studied Fine Art and Digital Photography at

Salem State College while taking classes at Montserrat College of

Art. Now, she is a practicing artist maintaining a studio at Western

Ave. Studios in Lowell, MA #A404.

Brown has worked in oils, pastels, graphite, watercolor and digital

photography, but she now focuses on pastel. She is inspired by the

works of the Old Dutch Masters as well as the beauty of a highly

detailed still life. Using sanded pastel papers allows her to build

layers, helping to develop depth, shape, color, light and shadows.

Her work, gives a sense of peace and beauty that have simple

elegance and mood.

The artist is a member of the Pastel Guild of Europe, Pastel Society

of America, Pastel Society of New Hampshire, the Manchester

Artist Association, the Chelmsford Art Society and the Nashua Area

Artist Association. Exhibiting and teaching helps Mary Ellen to share

her love of painting which she feels is a God given gift to be shared

with others.
