Training Programme for Childcare and Play Providers- Carmarthenshire

IntroductionThis booklet provides details of all the Training courses provided by the Family Information, Childcare and Play Team and Flying Start Team forSeptember – November 2019.

Family Information, Childcare and Play TeamThe Family Information, Childcare and Play Team plan and co-ordinate mandatory training courses required by the Care Inspectorate Wales (C.I.W.) which are open to all childcare and play providers within Carmarthenshire. The courses include accredited Paediatric First Aid, Introduction to Child Protection, Basic Food Hygiene (Full and refresher) etc.

These courses are heavily subsidised by the Local Authority and are restricted to two members of staff from each setting attending each course. To book on to these mandatory courses please contact the Family Information, Childcare and Play Team on 01267 246560 (Tuesday to Thursday). Flying Start TeamCourses listed for Flying Start contracted nurseries are generally focused on improving quality practice and offer continuous professional development opportunities for childcare practitioners, leaders and managers. They do not focus on the mandatory courses required by CIW. They are primarily only for Flying Start Contracted Nurseries and are free of charge, are mostly delivered during working hours, which means backfill funding is available (subject to funding) to Flying Start settings only, in order to release staff to attend under their contractual agreements.

In some cases where courses are not fully taken up by contracted settings, we can offer up empty places to the wider Childcare Sector (non-Flying Start contracted nurseries). Therefore we would encourage any non-Flying Start childcare setting, nursery or playgroup to telephone 01554 742447 in order to put names on a waiting list. If places become available, named staff on the waiting list will be contacted and offered up places. But unfortunately backfill funding cannot be offered to non-Flying Start settings. Invoices will be issued with all bookings.*Please note that due to rising costs for training we no longer provide buffet facilities, could you please ensure you bring your own food; sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

Participants who wish to cancel a booking must do so 48 hours prior to the date of the course via telephone. The phone number to cancel MANDATORY courses is (01267) 246560 OR Flying Start Courses is 01554 742447.

Participants who fail to attend a MANDATORY training course will be fined £50 and will not be permitted to book on to future courses until this fee has been paid. These changes have been necessary due to a high number of unfilled courses, and wasted places. We are keen to ensure that as many staff as possible can access the training they require before certificates expire. This is becoming increasingly challenging with budget reductions.
