Geriatric Depression Disorder
Free Webcast
August 13, Noon-1 pm CDT Earn 1 CEU, pre-approved for Social Workers;
self-submit other disciplines. CEUs are free for MGS members and $15 for non-members.
True or False? Depression is more common in older adults compared to their younger counterparts. False. It’s not more common, but it’s more challenging to treat. Depressive disorders are among the leading causes of disability for older adults. This limitation of daily activities is more than a mental health issue: it’s a public health issue. Yet, elderly patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) often don’t receive adequate treatment. We’ll discuss the common misunderstandings about MDD, as well as review key evidence in the areas of phenomenology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment, which may help guide patient care.
Presenter Ben Braus, M.D., MPH Staff Psychologist, Minnesota VA Health Care System’s Geriatric Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic
Learn • Key principles of MDD diagnosis for elderly
patients • Key strategies of MDD treatment for elderly
