GUIDELINES

CARE Grants will fund: Projects that might lead to additional external funding.

Scholarly creative or research endeavors that can lead to juried publication, exhibits, performances, or grant proposals

Scholarly creative or research endeavors that contribute strongly to the university’s scholarship mission, which require more support than available from department or college resources.

Funds must be expended by June 30, 2014

A project can be funded for two years, but the applicant must reapply for the second year.

CARE funds will not support: Faculty salaries

Attendance to professional meetings and conferences

Other Requirements If the project involves human or animal subjects IRB approval

must be obtained before the award is given.

Recipients must submit a written report upon project completion and create a poster presentation for exhibition in fall 2014.

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

Five page maximum, not including cover page; 12 point font, 1 inch margins

Address the sections in the order they are given

Avoid technical jargon

Description of Project Goals and Objectives What will you do and why are you doing it. Brief summary of project.

What is the need for this project? Is there current research that supports the need for your proposed project? Why is this project important to your field or to your own scholarship? Is your project unique/innovative?

What do you hope to achieve through this research (what are you specific goals and objectives)?

Plan of Operation When will your project begin and end?

Who will do what, and when? Describe the tasks that will be completed by both the PI (you) and any personnel that will be working on the project. If there are personnel listed in the budget, then you must describe their role in the project.

Describe the role of any partners/collaborators

Dissemination Plan How will you disseminate the results of your project?

Be Specific: To what refereed journal might you submit an article? At what venue might you perform, or at what conference will you present your findings? Where might your work be exhibited?

What external federal, state, or private grant funding might this project lead to? Again, be specific about a potential grant opportunity: name of the grant competition and agency/funder.

Reach as broad an audience as possible (i.e., look beyond local venues)

Budget Your budget should match your narrative: make it clear in your narrative how

the items requested in your budget are necessary for project completion

Personnel = anyone paid directly through MSUB payroll, including interns, workstudy, and assistants. Don’t forget to calculate their fringe benefits. Detailed information on fringe benefits is available at: http://www.msubillings.edu/grants/pdf/Benefit_Worksheet.pdf

Contractual = payment made to an outside entity/individual, a specialist not employed by MSUB.
