Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church is honored to host an evening of dialogue focused on responding to racism from an interfaith perspective. Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners (sojo.net) and author of America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America, will deliver a keynote address and moderate a panel of local anti-racism experts to help our community respond to the devastating impact racism has on our neighborhood and our nation. Come for an inspiring evening and hear the call to do the hard work of dismantling racism.

Tickets are available now at http://hennepinwallis.eventbrite.com and on our Facebook page, @Hennepin Avenue UMC. General admission is $25; General Admission plus a copy of America’s Original Sin is $40, or $30 for students.

Join a Small Group ConversationOur January sermon series will focus on Jim Wallis’s book, America’s Original Sin. If you would like to discuss this book in a small group setting, or would like to find a faith community that gathers for support and learning, we invite you to join a Live Your Faith Everywhere (LYFE) Group. Contact Pastor Nate Melcher at [email protected] to learn more about LYFE groups in your area.

Jim Wallis to Preach at Sunday WorshipOn Sunday, January 13, Jim Wallis will also give the sermon during our 10:00am worship service. Worship is always open to the public--no tickets are required. Free nursery care is available in our Education wing, and all children are welcome to join our Hennepin Kids for LYFE Sunday School classes that morning, for the entire duration of this extended worship experience. WELCOME AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!We are glad you are here to hear the Good News of Christmas. We celebrate the birth of Christ because we believe Jesus came to bring peace and hope to all of us. We hope tonight’s celebration will inspire you to bring the love and mercy of Jesus into the world.

At Hennepin Avenue UMC, our vision is to grow in love of God and neighbor, to reach new people, and to help to heal a broken world. Our community exists to offer everyone a place to practice loving God and each other, through risk-taking mission and service, extravagant generosity, radical hospitality, intentional faith development, and passionate worship. We are committed to asking and exploring challenging questions about faith, religion, justice, scripture, and so much more—we definitely don’t have all the answers, but we believe that together, we can find a few.

We are a community engaged in social justice and spiritual healing. As a Reconciling Congregation, we celebrate diversity of all kinds and welcome all people, all the time. Every day, our doors are open to all people. We welcome seven Alcoholics Anonymous groups each week. We share our classrooms with the Minnesota Internship Center (MNIC), a charter school for students who are determined to finish high school in the midst of difficult life circumstances. We host community events featuring national thought leaders, writers and performers, including best-selling authors Elizabeth Gilbert, Doug Wood and Jen Hatmaker, comedian Heather Land, international podcasters The Liturgists, musical theater star Greta Oglesby, and coming next month, activist and author Jim Wallis.

There are lots of ways to connect with the Hennepin community. Check out our website and let us know how we can serve you. Join us for worship every Sunday at 8:30am or 10am.
