ndoor exhibit opportunities are now extremely limited for the 2019 Home, Garden and Lifestyle Show: Saturday & Sunday, April 6th and 7th at the Bedford County Fairgrounds. The show, which takes place both inside Jordan Hall and on the grounds around the building is the Chamber’s signature welcome-spring trade show, which draws more than 1,500 guests through-out the weekend. It’s an excellent chance for businesses to make connections with potential customers, who attend the show looking for ideas from local experts for home improvement projects, warm-weather recreation, and more. The family-friendly event in-cludes food truck refreshments, children’s activities, Friends of Shawnee Outdoor Experience and demonstrations including grilling workshops by Lifestyle sponsor, Homewood at Spring House Estates. Additional sponsors to date include Garden Sponsor Stoneham’s Motorsports, John Deere Show Sponsor West Central Equipment, Cub Cadet Test Drive

Challenge Sponsor Hines Equipment, Heating Sponsor Shaffer’s Bottled Gas and media partners, the Bedford Gazette, WJAC, Everything Bedford County and Cessna Broadcasting. Family-oriented activities will include a Saturday EGGstravaganza by Real Life Church, as well as live music by Route 869; the Bedford Speedway Race Car Show and Test and Tune live practice will highlight Sunday’s schedule, with live folk music by Coltt Winter Lepley (weather permitting.) Excellent sponsorship and outdoor exhibit opportunities are still

available for the 2019 show; bene-fits include significant marketing exposure through the Chamber’s multi-media campaign including TV, radio, direct mail, display marketing, email, web and social media, featuring show mascot, Handyman Rusty. The Chamber would be glad to customize a sponsorship oppor-tunity for your business to be part of our largest public/consumer event of the year.

Call Kellie or Cara to discuss HGL Show opportunities:

he Bedford County Chamber (Education) Foundation is planning a series of spring semester events to benefit thousands of students in the Bedford County region.

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Community Reading Day and an expansion of the long-running program through a partnership with the Federated Library System of Bedford County. Volunteers from the business community will read to students in Pre-K through third grades on April 23rd, sharing with them the value of literacy as well information about their career paths. Businesses may participate as a sponsor of books, bookmarks or as readers. The Foundation is specifi-cally seeking entrepreneurs to read a specially-chosen book, What to do with an Idea. Please call Rick Smith at the Chamber office for details on how to be involved with this event.

The second annual Fifth Grade Career Field Day Hosted by Shawnee State Park is planned for May 9th (with a rain date of May 10th.) In the event’s inaugural year, students took part in a circuit of career stations and activities, giving them exposure to many industries, including health care, hospitality, logistics, law enforcement, media, technology and so much more. The day’s programming is limited only by the imaginations of the par-ticipating businesses.

“We are so proud to work with amazing community leaders who inspire students with many career possibilities,” said Chamber CEO Kellie Goodman Shaffer. “We hope to expose them at a young age to the many opportunities for a bright future in Bedford County.”

The Youth Leadership Bedford County program has expanded in recent years to reach more 10th grade students through a Youth Leadership Summit.

Students, chosen by their school faculty and administration, come together for a day of visioning and team building through interaction with community leaders. The Summit is designed to empower students to become servant leaders, to make a positive difference in their communities, and to foster pride in Bedford County. Sponsorships are available for this program, being planned for May. Businesses may also support the traditional YLBC program by sponsoring a student’s tuition. The Foundation is also pre-senting the second annual Student Entrepreneur Contest, with finals planned for May. To learn more about ways to be part of these and other valuable programs of the Bedford County Chamber Foundation, contact Kellie Goodman Shaffer at the Chamber office: 623-2233.
