Finally this issue contains the major update of the NIXDORF label series, The list was prepared by Rich Toop of Ottawa and I want to thank Rich for sharing the list with us.

In Guelph, , !:AIL*POSTE area manager finally found two outlet locations d3- town. I expect the main post office will close and I will lose my box number - we shall see.

Below is an Pitney Bowes from a now mailing system that was just in n September 22, 1992.

It is called the Mail Cntre 2O00 Paragon Mail Processor and has all the bells and whistles. It accepts mail of assorted sizes in a tray, feeds and weighs each piece, seals and applies the proper postage, records the transaction and produces a report of the days transactions. Prior sorting by size is a thing of the past. It will process 250 pieces a minute. I have not been able to find much on the postage meter but it has three different stored meter ads. The date is set electronically. It produces a tape for parcels. They call it a "Present Impression" meter.

Note the date is the new style of Y-M'D. Their ad shows an example dated at Ottawa 92.08.1E. The ad appears to be a 4-bank meter but the above impr . e looks as if it might be a decimal meter as well.

M label printed in same size & format as the N5000001 (type II) series (thermal/Laser printer). These labels are smeller than issues in the N3000000 and N4000001 (type I) series,

1) Meter labels by virtue of a dash, dot, abbreviation,

space or other minor difference in printing are considered a separate or distinct label for purpose of recording. Specifically, meter labels which have been reported, are listed precisely the way they were printed.

2) While the majority of Responsibility . Centre numbers (RC#s) are seven digits, many are six, therefore both are recorded separately.

Addendum to Newsletter 36

Figure 1 below shows a label from the new Nixdorf meter installed in the Safeway store at 70 Court St. North in Thunder Bay, ON. Figure 2 shows the specimen impression from this machine. Figure 3 is also from this machine but was produced when the machine was first uncrated. Figure 4 shows a label from a machine used to train FPO staff, hence the N8888888 serial number. Apparently Priority Courier and 5 other countries Postal Services have bought portions of TNT Delivery Services and all international priority mail is being carried by TNT in these countries. TNT requested a different label be used than the postal label, hence the Aug. 4, 1992 (or Sept. 4 - source not sure which) upgrade to the software included this second label for international priority mail. These labels will be hard to obtain as they are attached to the paperwork for the parcel - not the parcel itself. After two yea...s the paperwork and labels are to be destroyed by the FPO.
