What should i bring for my room?Moving to college will go smoothly with the proper planning. These lists will help you determine what you should bring or leave at home.

who is eligible for on-campus housing? All registered students can live in on-campus housing.

what if i’m not accepted to nDscs yet? While you do have to be an NDSCS student to live on campus, you can apply for housing prior to being officially accepted to the college.

how much is the application fee/deposit? The residence hall application requires a $25 non-refundable application fee. The apartment application requires a $50 non-refundable application fee.

what is a license/contract? The student housing license and dining contract is a nine-month academic year agreement that outlines the terms and conditions of living on campus at NDSCS.

when will i know my housing assignment? This depends on when your application and application fee is received. You can expect to receive your housing assignment no later than 30 days prior to the start of the term you will be attending.

Do i have to live on campus? All freshmen are required to live on campus for their first academic year. You may fill out an Exemption from the On-Campus Living Policy form if you meet any of the following criteria: 21 years old, married, have primary custody of a minor child, currently enrolled in less than 12 credit hours, have completed 30 credit hours; or living with parents or legal guardians within 50 miles of NDSCS.

student health and counseling servicesHealth services offers a wide range of medical services to our students including over-the-counter medications, limited lab testing and referrals to area clinics/hospitals.

Counseling Services offers counseling for individuals, couples or groups addressing a variety of needs such as personal, social, emotional or academic concerns. The personal counselor is a licensed professional counselor in the state of North Dakota and a member of the American Counseling Association.

academic service center (asc)NDSCS has help available if you need it. Need help writing papers? The ASC has the Writing Lab and it’s free for NDSCS students. It helps students become more confident and effective writers and communicators. It also provides free tutoring and other available to meet students’ needs.

Get involved on campusintramural sports The Intramural Sports program provides every student an opportunity to participate in some type of competitive sports activity as regularly as their interest, ability and time will permit. Intramural activities range from traditional sports such as flag football, basketball and slow-pitch softball to more non-traditional sports such as ultimate frisbee and dodgeball.

campus activities Board The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is a branch of the Student Senate. It’s mission is to enhance student learning outside the classroom through social, multi-cultural, educational and recreational activities. CAB coordinates activities and events such as Homecoming, dances, grocery bingo and much more.

student senate All registered students of NDSCS are members of the student body. The governing body of the enrolled students is the Student Senate. The Student Senate is the voice of the student body in campus affairs. The Senate has the authority to regulate all student social activities and all extracurricular activities with the exception of the performing arts and athletic events.

Become a resident assistant (ra) The primary role of the RA is to create and promote a safe living and learning community among the residents on their floor and throughout the building.

The responsibilities of an RA cover numerous areas including: community development, social and educational programming, safety and security, and peer mentorship.

how do i pay for my housing? Housing and meal plan charges are billed to your student account each semester. This is the same account billed for your tuition and fees. You can pay your student account balance over the phone, in person or online. Contact the Business Affairs Office at 701-671-2216 for more information on payment options.

apartments and family housingApartments offer students an opportunity to live with another student with a shared kitchen, living room and bathroom in an environment that is staffed with live-in Residential Life staff. Students living in NDSCS apartments continue to get the on-camps experience, enjoy the convenience of student billing and get to participate in events you will not find off-campus.

NDSCS also has family housing options available for students who are married or have children as well as a childcare facility on campus. Only one resident needs to be an NDSCS student and a marriage license and/or birth certificate for children is required.

housing frequently asked Questionswhat comes in my room? The basic furnishings in each room are a twin bed, desk with desk chair, closet and dresser.

what about roommates? You can either list your roommate preference on your housing application or we can place a roommate with you. To ensure you are placed with your requested roommate you both need to: list the same housing preferences; list each other as the preferred roommate on your housing application; and submit your housing application by May 1. You will get your roommates contact information in your housing placement letter. You are encouraged to contact them prior to moving in to coordinate the items you are each bringing and to get to know each other.

where will i get my mail? Students living on campus receive their mail via a post office box in the Student Center. All packages will be delivered to the Mail Center and students are notified in their post office box.

is there a telephone? Landline phone service in residence halls is available on each floor in common areas. Long distance calls require calling cards or credit cards unless calling collect.

can i smoke or use chewing tobacco? NDSCS is a tobacco-free campus.

can i bring my car to campus? There are residential parking lots on campus. Parking permits may be purchased through the Campus Connection or at the NDSCS Police Office. You must display your NDSCS parking hang tag at all times. For more information please visit www.ndscs.edu/police.

can i cook? All of the residence halls have a small community kitchen available for you to use, it is for occasional cooking and not intended to serve as a daily cooking facility.

what appliances can i bring? Students are welcome to bring surge protectors, irons, stereos, electric razors, curling irons, blow dryers, computers, clocks and televisions. Students are allowed to bring small fridges that are no larger than 4 cubic feet. Microwaves under 800 watts are allowed.

where can i do my laundry? Each residence hall and apartment building have laundry facilities that residents can use. Please see the hall staff for specific locations in each building.

are my items insured? Your parent’s homeowner’s insurance may cover many of your items. It is your responsibility to check coverage, and you are encouraged to carry the appropriate renter’s insurance. NDSCS and Residential Life assume no liability for loss, damage or theft of personal property.

Dining servicesWhen hunger calls, just bring your ID card to the dining facilities on campus. Our full-time staff and student employees will provide you with nutritious, high-quality food served in a clean and attractive setting. On-campus dining allows busy students to spend time on more important things other than food budgeting, shopping, cooking and cleaning.

Dining facilitiesThe flickertail Dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner during the week for students on a dining plan or cash meal basis. The campus connection is a quick service restaurant, convenience store and serves all weekend dining meals. Both dining facilities are located in the Student Center conveniently located on campus.

*All rates for the 2012-2013 academic year**All NDSCS dining plans are block plans. The total number of meals provided by the plan is for use during one semester only. Meals not utilized are forfeited and do not roll over to the next semester.

Dining plans NDSCS Dining Services offers four different dining plan options to accommodate student needs. All students living on-campus in a residence hall must carry a dining plan. First year students must carry the 160 dining plan or higher. Out-of-state students receive a substantial discount on tuition when they live on campus and carry the 160, 225 or 300 dining plan.

Dining Dollars and wildcat Bucks Dining Dollars are included in the 225 and 300 dining plans (see below) and are deposited into your account for purchases in the Campus Connection or Flickertail Dining Room. If your Dining Dollars account balance runs low, you can deposit money into a Wildcat Bucks account. This account works the same as the Dining Dollars account and can be used in the NDSCS Bookstore. Any purchases made with Dining Dollars or Wildcat Bucks in the Dining Services receive a 5% discount off of each purchase.

Dining frequently asked Questions

what if there is a class/work conflict with dining hours? When you can’t sit down for lunch or dinner, the dining staff will prepare a sack lunch for you. It should be ordered one day in advance and will be made to meet your needs. Please see the cashier for more information.

what if i’m too sick to eat in the dining facilities? Meals for students who are ill can be coordinated through Student Health Services by calling 701-671-2286.

what if i have special dietary needs? If you need accommodations for a special diet due to a medical condition or have food allergies please contact the Dining Services Office by calling 701-671-2321.

what if the campus is closed or classes are canceled due to bad weather? The Flickertail Dining Room is open regular dining hours during cancellations or closures.

where can i eat during holidays? If you will be remaining on campus during holidays please contact the Dining Services Office one week prior for assistance in making other meal arrangements. Dining Services is closed during Thanksgiving, semester, spring and Easter breaks.

what if i want to order a care package for my son or daughter? Care Packages are available from Dining Services. For example, our Birthday Party Package includes a 17”x12” cake or a 12” cookie, a 12 pack of pop, plates, napkins, forks and a “Happy Birthday” balloon. Other packages available are: Miss You, Get Well, Pizza Party, Road Trip and more.
