Soak Up the Sun at a Summer Festival Welcome to July in Southeast Indiana, where the summer festival season is in full swing! This month, our calendar is packed with a variety of special events on the agenda, many of which are a Dearborn County tradition. Best of all, since most of our festivals offer free admission, you and your family can enjoy a great day trip without having to worry about the impact on your wallet.

In addition to our popular July Fourth events, which include the Aurora Firecracker Festival (July 3-4) and the City of Greendale’s annual Fourth of July Celebration (July 4), you’ll find lots of great events on the calendar this month, including a variety of church festivals taking place throughout the county.

Fall Road Rally to BenefitTour for the Cure®Dearborn County is home to a variety of scenic highways and byways that are particularly beautiful in the fall. This October, you’re invited to discover some of them on a special road rally to benefit breast cancer research.

Known as the Tour for the Cure® Scenic Road Rally, this unique one-day event includes a four-hour, 60-mile course through our scenic countryside, with a number of pit stops along the way. In addition to the drive, which includes visits to three

historic bridges and an apple orchard, participants will enjoy tours of Hillforest Victorian House Museum and the historic Veraestau estate, both located in Aurora. The event will also include a stop at McCabe’s Greenhouse and Floral in Lawrenceburg to pick up pink ribbons. Those wishing to extend their trip will find several nearby Dearborn County hotels ideal for an autumn getaway.

Open to all street legal vehicles and sponsored by the Dearborn County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Bureau, the Tour for the Cure® Scenic Road Rally is scheduled for Sat., October 17, rain or shine. A cost of $60 per vehicle includes a $25 donation to Tour for the Cure®, with additional donations encouraged.

The Tour for the Cure® Scenic Road Rally is organized by Scenic Road Rallies, LLC of Sunman, Indiana. Registration for the fall road rally is now open to the public, so make your reservation today! Participants will enjoy a fun scavenger hunt and a variety of great prizes provided by Vera Bradley, Inc. Teams can also sign a special Memory Board provided by The Framery of Lawrenceburg. In spite of some rainy weather, I’m pleased to report that last month’s Vera Bradley Classic™ was a tremendous success. This annual golf outing and fundraiser, which is organized by the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast CancerSM and took place at the beginning of June in the Foundation’s home city of Fort Wayne, drew more than a thousand supporters eager to join the Foundation in raising money for breast cancer research.

As you know, the Foundation is the sole beneficiary of our Tour for the Cure® initiative, with 100% of Tour for the Cure® donations going to support the nonprofit group and its important mission.

I would like to express my appreciation to all of our local Tour for the Cure® partners, including the hotels, restaurants and attractions that make our Tour for the Cure® program such a success. I would also like to thank once again our Tour for the Cure® golf team (pictured below) who traveled to Fort Wayne to participate in this year’s Vera Bradley Classic.
