Would you like to hear uplifting melodies combined with powerful uproarious tune at the same time? The answer is always yes. Within the performances of Keroncong Surakarta Festival, you’ll listen to Portuguese-inspired traditional music played by an ukulele-like instrument. The keroncong ensemble, called a keroncong orchestra, consists of flute, violin, melody guitar, cello in pizzicato style, string bass in pizzicato style, and a female or male singer. Annually, the renowned Keroncong Surakarta Festival hopes to preserve traditional keroncong as Indonesia’s identity and heritage. The two-day festival features many keroncong subgenres, including pure keroncong, and keroncong rock.
