Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
At our school, student wellbeing is extremely important . In line with the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Policy for all students, it is extremely important children attend school regularly to help them to attain the best education possible. Covid 19 certainly threw us some challenges with attendance. However, there is no excuse for students to be absent from school unless they have an appointment or are unwell. Please remember to advise the school as soon as possible so that you child’s absence is justified. Students will be recommencing wellbeing lessons with our new Zones of Regulation with Mrs Lord. We will also continue our ESmart lessons that help students develop resilience, identify bullying and staying safe. To help our students understand what bullying is and how to stop it, we will be having the Police Liaison Officer come to the school during this term. Above all, our school is a safe, engaging and wonderful place to learn and it is important to empower our students. Our anti-bullying policy can be found on our school website. Please can I remind parents that in our current Phase 3 returning to school arrangements, parents can walk their child/children into and out of school whilst maintaining distance. Our teachers are often very busy preparing for the day’s learning each morning. Should you wish to speak with your child’s teacher please see Mrs Moore at the front office to arrange for a time to meet with them. This helps our school to continue to follow our Covid-19 policies as well. Thank you so much for your understanding around these arrangements.
Kind regards,
Mrs Justine Eddy

3-6 Star of the Week
Black Mountain School Times Page 3
This week 3-6 have been learning about 2
dimensional space in Mathematics. We have been
drawing shapes accurately using formal measuring
units, labelling them, describing their features and
then creating enormous shapes in the playground.
We used string, protractors, the trundle wheel and
spray paint to draw them. We worked with Mrs
Moffatt and Mrs Eddy to create a handball court
making sure to have right angles and equal, straight
sides.
This week, we are creating stories for younger
children. We will be using our photography skills to
illustrate our books. At the moment we are writing a
dramatic scene.
On Wednesday, Mr Matthew Hobbs, Director,
Educational Leadership made a surprise visit to our
school. It was lovely to have him in our classroom to
see the great work we are doing.
Xavier Eskenazi-Maunder demonstrated great
reading strategies in his reading group.

Mrs Robinson Class Report 3-6 News
In Personal Development and Health this term we
are exploring the topic ‘Me and my Mates’, which
has involved getting to know more about what we
need in life to survive and thrive. Throughout this
topic we are also looking at our connections with
others and the varying range of factors that can
impact these relationships. It has been really
interesting to discuss the children’s perspectives
about what our needs are in life versus our wants. It
has encouraged some great talk about what is
actually essential in order to survive as opposed to
the things that make life more convenient.
This week we have re-iterated the importance of
feeling a sense of belonging, freedom, power and
fun. We have made links to Maslow’s Hierarchy of
Needs and created our own diagram to represent
where these potentially rank when thinking about
moving from surviving to thriving in life.
I absolutely love teaching this topic. The
conversations within the class are always meaningful
and for me, it is so satisfying to facilitate experiences
that help the students gain an understanding of
positive core values that will enhance their
wellbeing.
Mrs Robinson.
School Survey
We will be sending home a school survey with
each student. Each year our school strives to
improve our communication with families,
parents and carers. Please complete it and return
it to school as soon as possible so that our school
can make the relevant improvements to meet our
community’s needs. All information will be
completely confidential.
