Ressurection I hadn’t heard much about Fr. Aidan Troy, the Passionist Priest who became famous as the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Parish in Belfast during the disturbances there many years ago. His name came back to prominence during the past week when he spoke about the fire at Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral. Fr. Aidan, who is Parish Priest of Saint Joseph’s, the English Parish in Paris, visits the Cathedral once a week for evening Prayer and Confession. I was struck by Fr. Aidan’s interview on RTÉ and his take on Resurrection

“Honestly, I think it’s going to be a bit like Ground Zero. I think many people are going to go to Notre Dame now as a shrine, as it’s being rebuilt. I think it will have even more visitors come to look at it and just to pay homage to something that we’ve lost. “I may not live to see it, but I know it will come back. “It’s a bit like the story of this week, there will be a resurrection, I’ve absolutely no doubt about that. “Just as Jesus Christ rose, Notre Dame will rise.”

Like you I was shocked and saddened at the sight of the Cathedral being engulfed by fire. The Cathedral has been a place of worship for eight centuries as well as a place for twelve to fourteen million people to visit every year. It is also a reminder of the Christian heritage of France and Europe.

We are people of the Resurrection. When we lit our candles from the newly blessed Paschal Candle on Saturday night, the Church was in darkness and as we passed the candles to others in the Church, we saw how we can spread the light of Christ. We must bring this light to those we share our lives with during this Easter season.

Finally, thanks to all who contributed in any way to our Holy Week, Triduum and Easter Liturgies. Listing names inevitably leads to omitting someone, so, to one and all ‘Thanks’. On behalf of the Parish Team, Parish Pastoral Council and myself I wish

you a very blessed Easter. Fr. Damian Farnon, Moderator.

Monday Club We had a good crowd in the club this morning despite the bad wet cold morning. Welcome back Maureen who has not been with us for a while due to illness. All were delighted to see her. This morning we had a film on Fatima. This film tells the story of the three children, Lucia aged 10, and cousins Jacinta 7 and Francisco 9 who, on 13 May 1917 were playing and minding sheep when they saw flashes of light and noticed a lady appearing to them and told them not to be afraid and would not harm them. The lady asked them to come to the same place on the 13th of each month for the next five months. War was raging throughout Europe and the lady requested the children to pray the Rosary for peace. She told the children she would take two of them with her to Heaven which she did not long after the apparitions, and told Lucia she would be left behind for a while longer. Lucia entered a convent and only died there in 2005. Pope John Paul II declared Francisco and Jacinta blessed on 13 May 2000. The chapel of Apparitions stands on the exact place where the apparitions took place and next to it is the Statue of the Madonna of the Rosary. Our Lady’s is encrusted with pearls and precious stones and also contains the bullet taken from Pope John Paul on 13 May 1989. Times were very difficult back those years and worse things were prevented from happening through the power of prayer. The tough times are here again with famine, hatred, wars, people fleeing from their homes and countries, and only God knows what Brexit will bring. Maybe Our Lady is prompting us all to pray more to avoid more disasters. I know our parish here in Clondalkin is a very prayerful parish with two Masses each week day and four on Sundays as well as the Rosary every day and prayer meetings during the week. We do need to pray for all those situations and for people who don’t pray and don’t believe. We are lucky too in this country to have our own national shrine in Knock and are privileged too that Pope John Paul visited there in 1979 and again Pope Francis in 2018. There is another DVD on Fatima and maybe we can have a look at that on Monday 13 May, the date the story of Fatima first begun. Thank You Frank Brown for setting up the DVD, Frank is always so accommodating to us in the Monday Club. To

Martin, Collette and Joan for teas and tidy up, Kathleen F for the lovely buttered scones and jam, and to you all for coming and making the morning so enjoyable for everybody.

There will be NO CLUB next Monday. Club back on Monday 29 April. Take care.

Happy Easter to each of you and all parishioners who read the newsletter every week. Kathleen R
