Left, a local Boy Scout Troop stopped by to watch the show and were able to get their pictures taken with the anchors.

Right, several firefighters tell stories and chat with some of the WREX personnel during the break between the 5pm and 6pm tapings. The tones went off for two calls during the 6pm taping, but they kept right on taping.

The department’s first tanker was a 1930s era truck bought second hand. It was a favorite of Firefighter Dale Selsors; he even named it Betsy. Dale shot this photo of his son, Dennis (5), in his long rubber fire coat they wore then.

2015

Battalion Chief Tom Aaker’s son, Tommy (4-1/2), wears his dads much lighter and safer fire coat in front of one of the department’s two 3,000 gallon International Super Tender 771 (Tanker) that was purchased in 1999.

Firefighters were dispatched out during the Feb.1blizzard for a car on fire off PrairieHill Rd. Puttingthefireoutwastheeasypart, justgettingtherewasthehard part. Firefighters finish extinguishing the fire inthephotoonthefrontpage.

Blowing snow made it hard to see even a big fire truck.

Firefighters found the engine compartment on fire when they arrived and were able to protect a camper parked in front of the car from fire.

Even with high winds and slippery snow-covered roads the trucks made it in.

It’s not too early to begin preparing for the heating season. Check these 10 tips off your list and get ahead of the winter freeze.

rOur furnace has been inspected and serviced by a qualified professional during the last 12 months. (A furnace should be serviced at least once a year.)

rOur chimneys and vents have been cleaned and inspected by a qualified professional. I have checked for creosote built-up. (Not cleaning your chimney is the leading cause of chimney fires from built up creosote. This service needs to be done at least once a year.)

r Our wood for our fireplace or wood stove is dry, seasoned wood.

r Our fireplace screen is metal or heat-tempered glass, in good condition and secure in its position in front of the fireplace.

r We have a covered metal container ready to use to dispose cooled ashes. (The ash container should be kept at least 10 feet from the home and any nearby buildings.)

r Our children know to stay at least 3 feet away from the fireplace, wood/pellet stove, oil stove or other space heaters.

r Our portable space heaters have an automatic shut-off.

r Our portable space heaters will be plugged directly into an outlet (not an extension cord) and placed at least three feet from anything that can burn; like bedding, paper, walls, and even people. (Place notes throughout your home to remind you to turn off portable heaters when you leave a room or go to bed.)

r We have tested our smoke alarms and made sure they are working. (You need smoke alarms on every level of the home, inside each sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. For the best protection, the smoke alarms should be interconnected so when one sounds, they

all sound.)

r We have tested our carbon monoxide alarms and made sure they are working. (Carbon monoxide alarms should be located outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.)

IMPRES chargers perform adaptive reconditioning:Before the availability of IMPRESchargers with automatic, adaptivereconditioning, battery maintenance

IMPRES offers long-term safe charging:Mostconventionalchargerstransitiontoamaintenancecharge mode at the completion of a charge cycle.Maintenance charge is constant power applied toa battery in an effort to keep it charged over time. This results in long-term heating that can damage abattery, resulting in lost capacity. www.nfpa.org/education

The department’s first tanker was a 1930s era truck bought second hand. It was a favorite of Firefighter Dale Selsors; he even named it Betsy. Dale shot this photo of his son, Dennis (5), in his long rubber fire coat they wore then.

Battalion Chief Tom Aaker’s son, Tommy (4-1/2), wears his dads much lighter and safer fire coat in front of one of the department’s two 3,000 gallon International Super Tender 771 (Tanker) that was purchased in 1999.

Blowing snow made it hard to see even a big fire truck.

Firefighters found the engine compartment on fire when they arrived and were able to protect a camper parked in front of the car from fire.

Even with high winds and slippery snow-covered roads the trucks made it in.
