Nonalignment MovementIn the 1960’s, Tito became an active promoter of the nonalignment movement that promoted alternative politics. The first nonaligned states meeting was in Belgrade and was held under Tito’s sponsorship in 1961. The movement continued afterwards.Even though Tito was interested in aligning Yugoslavia with the Western European counties, he was not willing to allow any democratic opposition. My Mum- Dijana ĆurićMy mother was born in Yugoslavia

(now former Yugoslavia) with Tito as its president.

My mother says that as a child she liked Tito.

She liked Tito’s huge birthday parties that were marked with a public holiday and a big day of celebrations.

She also like school excursions to significant monuments of Yugoslav revolution.

My Mum-Dijana Ćurić My mother says that she doesn't not blame Tito for the war but believes that as a leader, Tito should have left the country in much better shape then he did. He should have allowed a democracy in the country and made sure that good and decent people were in the government. Instead he held on to the power and lost sight of the country.

At preschool, my mother was taught songs about how great Tito was. This is her singing one of these.
