Burlington Catholic Palm Sunday

Fr. Mahoney’s Message

Dear Burlington Catholic Collaborative,

Today we begin Holy Week, the days when we journey with Jesus on his way to the cross and anticipate his Resurrection on Easter next Sunday. Jesus acts in obedience to the Father to his death so that our sins may be forgiven. In the people found in Matthew's Gospel today we find ourselves and the ways we sometimes respond to Jesus. Sometimes we are like Judas who betrays Jesus and comes to regret it. Sometimes we are like Peter, who denies him. Sometimes we are like the disciples who fell asleep during Jesus' darkest hour. Sometimes we are like Simon who is forced into service to help Jesus carry his cross. Sometimes we are like the leaders who fear Jesus or like Pontius Pilate who washed his hands of the whole affair. Jesus dies so that our sins will be forgiven. During this Holy Week, let us meditate on these events and on the forgiveness that Jesus' obedience won for each of us. No Palms will be distributed this year. We received word from the Cardinal that we are not to distribute any Palms this year. The reasoning is this: if one person has the virus or is a carrier of the virus and touches the palms, then the entire lot is contaminated. Safety first! Our two Burlington Catholic Churches are open so our parishioners and visitors may spend time before the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle during the day: Monday - Friday - 8 AM to 4 PM, Saturday - 8 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday - 8AM to 2 PM. The Center Front Door and Back door (parking lot side with chair lift for the handicapped) will be open at St. Margaret's. The back door/Chapel door will be open at St. Malachy. Please use the hand sanitizer and wipes located at the doors when entering and exiting. I have been celebrating private Masses each day for your intentions. For the foreseeable future, please participate in the daily and Sunday Mass by way of Catholic TV. Schedules and access to the televised Mass and rebroadcasts are available at www.WatchtheMass.com or www.catholictv.org and by consulting local cable providers or network listings. Our Burlington Catholic Collaborative is now Live-Streaming Mass each Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on Facebook. We will also live-stream the Triduum – Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday morning. Find us on Facebook by searching “Burlington Catholic Collaborative”. Like us, Follow us, and Share us. Get the word out! While watching and praying the Mass on-line, make an act of Spiritual Communion.

An Act of Spiritual Communion. My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Thank you to the many parishioners that have mailed in and/or dropped off your offertory envelopes and the Catholic Appeal envelopes. These are of paramount importance to make sure we will be able to continue the mission and ministry of the Lord when we are able to celebrate the Sacraments without restrictions. We received word from the Chancellor that the Archdiocese does not have the financial means to bail out or give loans to any parish that cannot pay its bills. A very sobering thought. Our generosity to our parishes is not “needed” - it is “absolutely necessary”. The Light Is On For You. Even though we are not gathering to celebrate the Eucharist at Mass, we are still offering Confessions on Wednesday evenings during Lent from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret’s lower Church, Friday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 at St. Malachy, and on Saturday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at St. Margaret. Confessions will be heard face to face in the Sacristy at a safe distance between the penitent and priest. How do I examine my conscience well? One does so by asking for God’s help and prayerfully examining one’s actions in the light of Christ’s teaching and example. Some review their behavior by the Ten Commandments, others by Christ’s command to love God and love others, others by their correspondence to the beatitudes, others by comparing their behavior to the most important Christian virtues, and others by the seven “capital” sins (pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, lust and gluttony). It is not enough merely to focus on how one has broken God’s “rules,” but rather how one has damaged his relationship with God and others and hurt himself interiorly. It is also important to examine for sins of omission. Lenten Practices: GOOD FRIDAY is a day of fast and abstinence. ABSTINENCE is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter. Let us pray for each other. God bless,

Father Mahoney

YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST

Cardinal Sean has designated a Y ear of the Eucharist which will begin on Holy Thursday, April 9, 2020 and end next year on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 3, 2021. The goal of the Y ear of the Eucharist is to help Catholics gain a better understanding of the Holy Eucharist. It is hoped that, through this spiritual initiative, Catholics will develop a greater devotion to what the Catechism describes as the “source and summit of Christian life.” At the Table of the Lord, when bread and wine are consecrated and become the actual Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, Our Lord makes a gift of Himself to us because He loves us so much. It is in the Eucharist that we find our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ.

A steering committee has been formed from members of both St. Malachy and St. Margaret Parishes to lead the Y ear of the Eucharist activities within the Burlington Collaborative. We hope that many of you will participate in whatever activities are offered over the course of the next year. For now, we ask you to pray for the success of this effort so that, by the time it comes to a close next year, we will all have a much greater sense of awareness and appreciation for the great gift that God has given us.

A PRAYER AMID AN EPIDEMIC Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.

Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.

Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.

Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim Invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.

Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.

Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.

Jesus Christ, heal us.

As you can see in Figure 2, as the blood vessels that surround the nerves become diseased, they shrivel up. This prevents the nerves from getting the needed nutrients to continue tosurvive. When these nerves begin to “die” they cause you to have balance problems, pain, numbness, tingling, burning, and many additional symptoms.

Figure 2: When these very small blood vessels become diseased they begin to

shrivel up and the nerves begin to degenerate.

The main problem is that your doctor has told you to just live with the problem or try the drugs which you don’t like taking because they make you feel uncomfortable. There is

Burlington, MA – The most common method your doctor will recommend to treat yourneuropathy is with prescription drugs that may temporarily reduce your symptoms. These drugshave names such as Gabapen-tin, Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Neurontin, and are primarily antidepressant or anti-seizure drugs. These drugs may cause you to feel uncomfortable and have a variety of harmful side effects.

Figure 1: Notice the very small blood vessels surrounding each nerve.

Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves often causing weakness, pain, numbness, tingling, and the most debilitating balance problems. This damage is commonly caused by a lack of blood flow to the nerves in the hands and feet which causes the nerves to begin to degenerate due to lack of nutrient flow.

now a facility right here in Burlington, MA that offers you hope without taking those endless drugs with serious side effects.

In order to effectively treat your neuropathy three factors must be determined.

1) What is the underlying cause?2) How Much Nerve Damage Has Been Sustained?NOTE: Once you have sustained 85% nerve loss, there is likely nothing that we can do for you.3) How much treatment will your condition require?

The treatment provided at AWC | Acupuncture & ; Wellness Clinic has three main goals: 1) Increase blood flow2) Stimulate small fiber nerves3) Decrease brain-based painThe treatment to increase blood flow utilizes a specialized ATP Resonance BioTherapy™. Thistechnology was originally developed by NASA to assist in increasing blood flow and expediting recovery and healing.

The ATP Resonance BioTherapy™ is like watering a plant. This therapy will stimulate the blood vessels to grow back around the peripheral nerves and provide them with the proper nutrients toheal and repair.

Figure 3: The blood vessels will grow back around the nerves much like a plant’s

roots grow when watered.

The amount of treatment needed to allow the nerves to fully recover varies from person to person and can only be determined after a detailed neurological and vascular evalua-tion. As long as you have not sustained at least 85% nerve damage there is hope!

Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. at AWC | Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic in Burlington, MA will do a neuropathy severity examination to determine the extent of the nerve damage. This neuropathy severity examination will consist of a detailed sensory, vascular testing, and an analysis of neurological findings.

Call 781-221-0162 to make an appointment to determine if your peripheral neuropathy can be treated.

Patients find relief with fewer pills with a breakthrough clinic in Greater Boston. Those battling with pain but unable or unwilling to alleviate their condition withpotentially addictive pills can feel as if they’re on pins and needles waiting for asolution. However, for some suffering from pain, pins and needles ARE the solution.Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. who trained in China and practices acupuncture and otheradvanced procedures at AWC| Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic, said a lot of the pain management field is skittish about prescribing pain medication.

AWC| Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic has been open for 20 years in Burlington, MA. She currently actively consults and oversees cases in 74 clinics across the US, Canada, and worldwide in addition to treating and overseeing cases here at Greater Boston.

Her facility, AWC| Acupuncture &; Wellness Clinic, also serves as a training facility for doctors worldwide. Currently, there were 30 doctors scheduled to observe and train last year and this unique training opportunity will occur six times per year.Dr.Min Jeon Lic.Ac. said almost all of her

She said she did not expect the treatment to work, but is delighted it has. Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. says that Hicks is an inordinately fast responder. Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. says, “While we see these seemingly miraculous results day in and day out, Mrs. Hicks is an unusually fast responder. Typically, I expect patients to take a few more weeks to report these kinds of changes. But I’m very happy for her and all of us here at AWC are excited to see this look of amazement on our patients’ faces.”

“I tell all my friends. I don’t have the pain in there and rarely use my cane,” Hickssaid. “My husband doesn’t have to rub my feet anymore.”To see if you are a candidate for the procedures used by Dr. Min Jeon Lic.Ac. call 781-221-0162 to schedule a consultation today.
