Bullying – Somebody DOES understand, and that someone is me. Jodee Blanco
Family and Friends,
On Monday, September 23, 2019, New York Times bestselling author and bullying survivor turned activist Jodee Blanco will deliver a bullying survival and prevention seminar at St. Joseph Church. The event is free and open to the public—families (parents and children both) are encouraged to attend. The event is being presented by St. Joseph Parish School. At a time when bullying has become a serious national epidemic—preventing an estimated 160,000 children from attending school every day, ST. JOSEPH PARISH SCHOOL is taking proactive measures to combat this important issue. Jodee's 90-minute family seminar and workshop will include: • Jodee’s story of her struggle as the target of severe school bullying, as well as what her parents and teachers did that helped; what didn’t and why; and insights from the thousands of students she has worked with across the nation. • Specific, practical advice for adults on how to intervene with a victim, bully or bystander, from the rare point of view of someone who has lived through it. • Insights into the plight of the “adult survivor of peer abuse” and suggestions on how to overcome those open wounds from the past. Families are encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to speak with Jodee following the presentation. The event will take place on Monday, September 23, 2019 at St. Joseph Church 94-675 Farrington Highway, Waipahu at 6:30 pm.
Everyone is encouraged to attend what promises to be a meaningful, moving and informative evening. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact St. Joseph Parish School Office at 677-4475. Sincerely, Ms. Beverly Sandobal Principal About Jodee Blanco Survivor turned activist Jodee Blanco is the author of four books on bullying, including the seminal New York Times bestseller Please Stop Laughing At Me…, required reading in middle and high schools across the country. Reflection:
The Gospel speaks of a manager entrusted by his master to
care for his property. At first glance, we could be puzzled upon
reading the parable. It speaks about the manager who was
dismissed from his job for dishonesty. It is not the intention of
the parable to praise the wrongdoing of the manager. It focus-
es rather to the enterprising way the clever manager wiggled
his way out of his troubles. The parable calls our attention on
the astuteness and the cleverness of the manager. He was able
to find a way to survive inspite of his hopeless situation.
The parable is a reminder for us of the Christian understand-
ing of stewardship. As Christians, we can learn from the man-
ager, not on his wrongdoings but on his cleverness. He is not a
model of honesty or integrity. It is his tenacity, shrewdness
and efficiency which are worthy of imitation. But before we
consider immitating the shrewd manager, let us first be clear
about our goal in life and use our intelligence and energy to
achieve this. What is it that we want in life? As Christians, we
have excellent goals like faithfulness to God, a happy family
life, a peaceful community and concern for our neighbor but
we often lack the desire, the determination and the efficiency
to achieve these goals.
