Dear Parents/Carers

“I learned the value of hard work by working hard.” Margaret Mead

Welcome back to the Summer term! The year is whizzing by and the children are already in their final term

of their current year group. Our summer term is usually one of our favourites, with many events to squeeze

in such as sports days, productions, day visits to Bocketts Farm, swimming lessons, residentials to both PGL

and France, induction/transition days, technology days, arts week & life skills week, trips to Paultons Park for

Y5, Y6 fun afternoon, our talent show and lots, lots more! Phew! At least the sunshine is now in evidence –

let’s hope it stays that way for our sports day as it seems to try to rain on whichever date we pick each year.

READING COMPREHENSION

Our picture this week is entitled, “A BALANCED DIET”. Credit: Jungho Le

Why is the book shaped like this?

What message do you think Jungho

Le wanted this picture to have?

Write a sentence about this picture

using a simile or metaphor.

Can you consume books?

Do you have a balanced reading diet?

Which genre is your favourite?

Is it important to read a variety of

texts? Does reading ‘broaden the

mind’?

and others – to read a range of fiction

and non-fiction?

POTLEY HAS TALENT

This year instead of Potley Prom we will be holding a Potley Has Talent show. This will give all children with a

special talent or hobby an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talents and for the school to celebrate

them.

Children wanting to take part will have to audition in front of Mrs Stark and Mrs Wilding, so that the show is

not too long. The best in each category will be selected for the final big performance in front of parents and

the school. Each act should be no longer than 3 minutes long. Categories can include, dance, music, sport,

comedy and entertainment.

There is a form at the bottom of this page if your child would like to audition.

YEAR 1\2 MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PROJECT

Please could you save any boxes/plastic bottles/elastic bands/pieces of string etc. that could be used by the

pupils in YR 1\2 for our DT Musical Instrument Project next half term. Many thanks

Mr Farrer is also completing his training with us this term in Flamingo Class before taking up a teaching post

with us in KS2 in September.

BREAK THE RULES DAY

As previously shared, we will be holding our first ‘Break the Rules’ Day

on Friday 27th April. Children have been given their forms for the rules

they can break today – look out for the bright green letters in their bags

tonight. They should return these forms to their class teacher, along with

their ‘fine’ BY THURSDAY 26th April so we can plan for items such as

the extra break time. Please make sure that any fizzy drinks come in a

bottle, even if they have been decanted, rather than a can.

ATTENDANCE FOR MARCH

Well done to Dolphin Class who came top for attendance during

March for the 3rd month running. Our whole school attendance since

September stands at 96.33% - our target for the year is 97%.

BODY IMAGE WORKSHOP FOR UPPER KS2

Next week, all of our Y5s and Y6s will be taking part in workshops

designed to boost their confidence and perceptions of themselves

and their bodies. This is especially important in these days of

widespread media coverage of celebrities with Photoshop and the

like. Parents of these children should have received a letter earlier in

the week about these workshops.

EYFS & KS1 Classes Attendance

END OF SUMMER TERM

We will be finishing at 1pm on Friday 20th July to break up for the summer holiday. As always, please

contact the office if this will cause you significant issues as we are able to continue to supervise any children

unable to be collected until 3.20pm.

VOLUNTEERS FOR THE MAY FAIR – 7th

Each year, our wonderful PTA runs a bottle tombola stall at the Yateley May Fair. This has proved to be an

excellent fund raiser for the school. Once again, we are looking for volunteers to help run the event – this

could be for as little as half an hour! The following help would be appreciated:

From 10.30am – support to set up stall

From 11.30am till approx. 2.30pm – parents to run stall for 30min or 1hr.

Page 4: Bulletin 20th April 2018...Bulletin 20th April 2018 Dear Parents/Carers “I learned the value of hard work by working hard.”Margaret Mead Welcome back to the Summer term! The year

We are aiming to have 3 people running the stall at any one time. Please fill in the reply slip below and return

to school, get in contact with the PTA or let Mrs Conroy know in the school office if you are interested. The

email address for the PTA is [email protected]. They also have their own Facebook page. WE CURRENTLY HAVE NO VOLUNTEERS FOR THIS EVENT AND CANNOT GO AHEAD

WITHOUT THESE.

Reminders:

JARED’S FUNDRAISING FOR CHARITY

We are very pleased to be able to include the following information from a parent of a Year 4 child in this

week’s bulletin, written by his mum:

“My son Jared has always been concerned for the homeless and decided himself he wanted to raise some money. On

4th April he will be climbing Snowdon! Dragging along his proud parents and reluctant teenage sister. His fund raising

will be split between Shelter UK and the local all night café Camberley that provides food and overnight provisions for

the homeless. Jared is doing very well with his fund raising and has made £420 of his £500 target and now wants to smash it! We have also created a Facebook page (below) where supporters can follow Jared’s progress and see pictures and clips

from the day. I would like to ask people to give whatever they can but importantly to leave a message of

encouragement for Jared as this provides motivation during long training walks and of course the climb itself. His

compassion and commitment to this cause has made me very proud.” https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/jaredsclimb?utm_id=100&utm_term=2dDV2rZ6a https://www.facebook.com/Jareds-Snowdon-Fundrasing-Climb-329225817592338/

PROSTATE CANCER

Hi, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Jon Seaman; my daughter attends Potley Hill. In June, I

am riding from London to Amsterdam to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. The company I work for ‘Old

Mutual Wealth’ have pledged to match all funds raised up to £1500. I would be extremely grateful if anyone

could sponsor this ride via this link. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jonseamanldntoams. Many thanks

Y5 SWIMMING

This begins on the first week back – Thursday 19th April – and continues weekly on Thursdays for 10 weeks.

The cost of these lessons is covered by the school. Children need to have the swim kits: a one-piece costume

for girls and fitted trunks for boys. Long hair has to be tied back and swimming caps are compulsory.

INSETS FOR 18/19 ACADEMIC YEAR

Potley Has Talent

27th June 6.30pm start to parents

This year we have been thinking about everyone’s well-being. An

important part of our well-being is doing something we enjoy and

are good at.

This year instead of Potley Prom we will be holding a Potley Has

Talent show. This will give all children with a special talent or

hobby an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talents and

for the school to celebrate them.

Children wanting to take part will have to audition in front of Mrs

Stark and Mrs Wilding, so that the show is not too long. The best

in each category will be selected for the final big performance in

front of parents and the school. Each act should be no longer than

3 minutes long. Categories can include, dance, music, sport,

comedy and entertainment.
