From the Principal’s Desk
Sheoak 6 Assembly
We enjoyed a very eclectic and interesting item based on the adventures of the famous Captain James
Cook. Our S6 girls and boys impressed us with their acting, speaking parts, artistic backdrops and
singing. The young James Cook commenced his working life at an early age as a “button seller!‟ He
sought adventures and became a famous navigator and explorer. The class item traced some of this
history with a bit of “poetic licence” thrown in to make it all even more interesting. Many thanks to Ms
Francis and Miss Pinkerton (Notre Dame Visiting teacher) for guiding the children in their successful
item.
NAPLAN Tests
Our Year 3 and 5 students have done their best this week by completing their
NAPLAN assessments in Language Conventions, Writing, Spelling, Reading
and Numeracy. Some “tricky” questions—however, all part of „growing up”.
The Bull Creek girls and boys have joined 1,100,000 other students around Australia in doing these
tests. Year 7 and Year 9 students have also completed their NAPLAN tests in their respective High
Schools.
National Schools’ Survey
Parent Survey 2014
For the first time a National School Opinion Survey (NSOS) was offered to parents in all the ten
thousand (Approximately) schools in the states and territories of Australia. The results will be published
on the Federal Government‟s “My School Website”. In 2015 a similar survey will be conducted with
some of the students at Bull Creek P.S.
The summary of the responses from our school‟s survey, provided by the survey coordinators, are
indicated below.
This school has a strong relationship with the local community - 71% Agree or Strongly Agree
The school is well led - 83% Agree or Strongly Agree.
I am satisfied with the overall standard of education achieved at this school - 76% Agree or
Strongly Agree
I would recommend this school to others - 76% Agree or Strongly Agree.
NB: The options were: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Neither, Agree or Strongly Agree.
Traffic Safety
Two things - firstly, in our regular correspondence from the Department of Education there is increasing
reference to road safety and encouragement that school principals convey this information. The most
recent has been a plea to parents to insist that their children wear their seat belt. Secondly, two parents
have complained that some parents are travelling too fast just before and after school
hours. Once again I wish to urge everyone (staff and parents) to drive very carefully
near the school.

GERMAN NOTES
German Day 2015 The GermanDay Out for Primary Schools has been a very popular over the last 6 years. It is organised and supported by TAGWA (German teacher association) and the Goethe Institute in Melbourne. Every year the topics are different and relate to special events. This year it was “Frohe Ostern’/Happy Easter. The children did a lot of language based fun activities and interacted with German learning students form other schools. Bull Creek hosted this year’s event. With almost 300 students from Willetton, Baldivis, West Coast Steiner and of course Bull Creek, our school was turned into a giant “German Easter Fun Factory”. Students went on treasure hunts, built a most beautiful “Osterbrunnen”, danced in “Lederhosen”, solved puzzles, played traditional games and had a taste of a German Brezel. A very special thank you to everyone envoled, from parents to teachers, students and of course our very special student helpers from Banksia: Uhziah, Ella, Dominiqua and Sofia N. It’s without doubt that everyone had lots of fun, but what was especially pleasing were the many compliments about our prefects/head boys and girls and how well mannered Bull Creek students were. Gut gemacht! Well done everyone! READY STEADY GO
Let the World Championships 2015 begin! Monday, May 18 at 3pm Log in and get points for Bull Creek! But not only for Bull Creek! For every Gold award Language Perfect is going to donate $1 for the Nepal Victims! They need your support! Good Luck Tanja Colgan
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data of School Students with Disability
Bull Creek Primary School is part of an Australia-wide data collection project about students with a learning difficulty, a medical condition, social and emotional or physical disability. The research aims to collect information about the number of children affected, what programs and the degree of support is currently offered and what this will mean for resourcing in the future.
A broad range of conditions have been included in the study. Some examples include students with a medical condition such as anaphylaxis, a physical disability such as cerebral palsy or a learning difficulty such as auditory processing disorder.
The information supplied is kept confidential. Our school name and all names of students are removed and not provided to the Commonwealth.
We believe it’s important for everyone to contribute to this project so it helps the Government and the Department of Education to better provide for all students in Western Australia.
A letter may be sent to you regarding this. If you do not want your child or children to be included please sign and return the form to the school.
If you would like to learn more about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data of School Students with Disability further information is available from the website: www.deewr.gov.au/students-disability

AUSTRALIAN EARLY DEVELOPMENT CENSUS ARTICLE FOR SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS The following AEDC article has been prepared for schools wanting to provide information through their school newsletter. Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) – a snapshot of children in our community A nation-wide program called the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) will take place again in May, June and July 2015. The AEDC looks at how young children are developing in the years before they begin school. In 2009 and 2012, the AEDC was completed nationally collecting information on over 500,000 children in their first year of full-time school. The AEDC takes place every three years. In Western Australia information will be collected on pre-primary children. Pre-primary teachers will complete the AEDC Instrument (like a questionnaire) for each child in their class and enter information into a secure web-based data entry system that protects the privacy of all children. Information entered is based on the teacher’s knowledge and observations of their students and children are not required to be present while data is entered. The AEDC results are reported back to the community based on the suburb or locality where children live, so individual children cannot be identified. The results help communities understand how their children are developing and where improvements can be made to give children the best start in life. Parents of pre-primary students will receive a letter about our schools involvement in the coming weeks. You can find out more at www.aedc.gov.au
