How to BuildThe Perfect Product

By @darshu inspired by @zzeran

3 Simple Rules

Rule #1 - More is Less

> Over-develop >>

Test>>> Leave only the best features

Yes it is. You need to

> Over-develop

Instead of arguing whether “it’s a killer feature” or “completely useless” just go ahead and build it. The users will tell you who was right.

Now measure the usage and engagement of the new features:

1. Are users using them?

2. Are they preforming like you hoped?

>> Test

>>> Leave only the best features

And Now, remove all the less successful features, and leave only the best ones. Don’t be sentimental, it’s just code.

Golden advice

Don’t develop features for hypothetical users*. Develop for your existing users.

* Hypothetical users are people who say “if you only had X I’d use your tool.”

A B C … Z

SLOW:

FAST:

A to Z

Forget about traditional divisions between product, design, R&D and marketing. Hire coders who can come up with product ideas, collaborate with designers, understand marketing and take things from A to Z themselves.

Release non-perfect products

What seems imperfect to you, will probably go unnoticed by most. The users who do notice and

care enough to give you feedback, will help you reach perfection as you go.

Golden advice

Perfect is the enemy of Done. Do first, perfect later.
